CSUN Hosts UCI Thursday; Travels To Cal Poly Saturday

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN heads back to the tennis courts this week with a pair of Big West duals. The Matadors (4-2, 1-1 Big West) host UC Irvine Thursday afternoon. With no fans allowed in the Matador Tennis Complex, coverage on BigWest.tv begins at 2 p.m.
CSUN will then head to Cal Poly for a Saturday match-up that gets underway at 11 a.m. Cal Poly is allowing fans to enter the Mustang Tennis Complex on a first come, first serve basis up to 20% percent capacity.
The Anteaters dropped their first six duals, getting shutout four times. UCI broke through, defeating UC Riverside 5-2 last Thursday. Winning in singles for UC Irvine against the Highlanders were Halla Alajeely, Jenna Schlatter, Emily Fowler, and Dasee Carter. UCI is 1-6 overall, 1-2 in Big West.
Cal Poly is 9-0 this season, 2-0 in Big West play. The Mustangs have recorded three shutouts and have won 6-1 three other times. Melissa LaMette (9-0) and Emily Ackerman (8-0) are undefeated in singles action in 2021. The doubles team of Dominique Stone and MacKenzie Worsnop are 7-0 this season.
The Matadors went 3-0 last week, allowing head coach Gary Victor to become the 33rd active Division I women's tennis coach to win at least 300 duals in a career. Victor begins this week's play with a 301-224 dual record.
CSUN defeated Sacramento State 6-1 last Wednesday, Santa Clara 4-2 last Saturday, and UC Davis 4-1 last Sunday. Magdalena Hedrzak improved to 5-0 in singles on the year after winning three times last week. Jolene Coetzee was 2-0 last week to raise her singles record to 4-1 this season. Ekatarina Repina was 2-0 a week ago including the victory that clinched the UC Davis dual.
