NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN extended its winning streak to four as the Matadors defeated UC Irvine 4-0 in Big West Conference women's tennis action Thursday afternoon.
The Matadors opened the meet by taking the doubles point. Jolene Coetzee and Ana Fraile Toboso defeated Halla Alajeely and Arianna Tilbury 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Magdalena Hedrzak and Sasha Turchak clinched the point with a 6-2 victory over Dana Mackensen and Emily Fowler in the No. 3 slot.
Ekaterina Repina began singles play at No. 1 by defeating Jessica Tsukiji 6-0, 6-2. Jenna Dorian extended the lead to 3-0 when she won in straight sets at No. 6 versus Dana Mackensen. Sasha Turchak clinched the dual for the Matadors with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 5 against Emily Fowler.
"Doubles continues to improve during this very short season without a preseason," said CSUN head coach Gary Victor. "Sasha continues to be a force. Jenna is always reliable. Kat is playing awesome and aggressively. I am proud of the team's effort."
Dating back to the start of the abbreviated 2020 season, CSUN has won 11 of its past 15 duals. The shutout victory was the first for the Matadors against the Anteaters (1-7, 1-3 Big West) in 37 all-time meetings between the two schools dating back to the start of the series in 1981.
The Matadors (5-2, 2-1 Big West) travel to Cal Poly (9-0, 3-0 Big West) Saturday. The first serve is set for 11 a.m.
