CSUN Hosts UC Davis This Weekend

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN softball team returns home this weekend to host UC Davis.

The series begins Friday with a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m. concludes Saturday at noon with a single game. Fans are not allowed to attend games in person on the CSUN campus. Friday's games will have audio coverage on GoMatadors.com. Saturday game will be streamed on BigWest.tv. Jason Schwartz is scheduled to be on the call on Friday with Brandon Liebhaber handling the play-by-play on Saturday.

UC Davis completed a three-game sweep of UC Riverside on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over the Highlanders. The Aggies are 10-18, 4-5 in Big West games. Isabella Leon is the team leader in batting with a .355 average. Sarah Starks is tied for seventh in the Big West in RBI with 18.

Kenedi Brown was named Big West Pitcher of the Week Apr. 12. She posted a pair of wins against UC Riverside. Brown's first start saw her take a no-hit bid into the sixth, eventually settling for a four-hit, two-run (one earned), one walk, and nine strikeout performance in the victory. Brown went all nine innings in a 2-1 win. She allowed eight hits, one run (earned), and walked one while striking out eight.

Brown leads the Big West in complete games (12) and innings pitched (107.1). Her 102 strikeouts are tops among Big West pitchers and are the 50th most in Division I this season. She is 6-9 with two saves which ties with two others for the league lead. This is the 55th, 56th, and 57th meetings between CSUN and UC Davis with the Matadors leading the all-time series 36-18.

The Matadors (2-10, 2-10 Big West) were swept by league leader Cal State Fullerton Apr. 9-10. CSUN lost 4-3 in the opener and 3-2 in the middle game of the series. The Titans defeated CSUN 9-1 in the series finale.

Alexis Lemus has appeared in nine games for CSUN this season and has recorded a pair of streaks. The Mt. SAC transfer has recorded at least one hit and has reached base in all nine games in which she appeared this season. Lemus has recorded two multi-hit games in 2021.

Lemus hit .375 with a run scored and a stolen base in the Cal State Fullerton series. She opened her CSUN career by recording an inside-the-park home run at Cal Poly Mar. 20.

Lemus is currently leading the team in hitting with a .379 batting average. She is tied for the team lead in runs scored (5) with Savannah Favre. She also paces the team in on-base percentage (.438).
