CSUN Gets Back in the Win Column With Tri-Dual Sweep

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Matador Beach Volleyball team did not drop a set in sweeping both Vanguard and Pacific in a tri-dual Friday at the CSUN Beach Volleyball Complex.
CSUNÂ 5, VANGUARD 0
The Matadors (7-9) opened the first dual when Lauren McMurray and Kailey Klein swept Hally Herder and Kenzie Bouse 21-17, 21-11 in the No. 4 pair. CSUN went up 2-0 when Lexi McLeod and Seyvion Waggoner earned a 21-15, 21-17 victory over Kayla Tinker and Carly McKinney at No. 2.
The Matadors clinched the dual when Vanguard forfeited the No. 5 pair. Darbi Honeycutt and Mikaela Maughan then swept Vashti Elias Romero and Sydney Irwin, 21-11, 21-18 at No. 2 before CSUN's Meagan Carter and Lauren Eknoian completed the sweep with a 21-19, 22-20 victory over Conley Harris and Natalie Escher.Â

CSUN 5, PACIFICÂ 0
Pacific pulled out a 3-2 win over Vanguard in the middle dual as the Tigers picked up their first win of the season. The Matadors then earned their seventh win of the season by sweeping Pacific, 5-0. McMurray and Klein earned their eighth win of the season by sweeping Lucy Carpenter and Sammie Sheppard in the No. 4 match by the score of 21-9, 21-13. McLeod and Waggoner then won their second straight with a straight-set (21-9, 21-17) win over Gabby Leo and Hania Taduran (PAC). The Matadors completed the first flight with a win in the exhibition (No. 6) match as Victoria Rogers and Abbey Sweeting made quick work of Ramonni Cook and Miranda Baptista, 21-5, 21-6.
Honeycutt and Maughan opened the second flight by clinching the dual with a 21-14, 21-11 win over Jadyn Tubbs and Jenny Todd at No. 3. True McCullough and Emily Sparks won their first match of the day, sweeping Claire Danna and Illyria Kalaj, 21-10, 21-11 before Carter and Eknoian capped the sweep with a hard-fought 21-18, 21-18 victory over Hanne DeSchrijver and Sedona Sherman.

"I'm very proud of my girls grinding out two more victories on our home sand. I feel like we took a step forward today and although we are still not where we want to be, we just have to continue to stick to the process of getting better every opportunity we get to train and compete."
