Matadors Travel To UC Riverside This Weekend

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN softball team returns to the road this weekend when Matadors travel to UC Riverside.

The series begins Saturday with a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m. and concludes Sunday at 1 p.m. with a single game. Fans are not allowed to attend games in person on the UCR campus. All three games are scheduled to be streamed on BigWest.tv. All links will be available on GoMatadors.com.

UC Riverside is 4-20, 3-12 in Big West play after dropping 2-of-3 at Hawai'i this past weekend. Katherine Montuya is leading the team in hitting at a .338 clip. She is one of three Highlanders on the team with two home runs and she has scored a team-high 12 runs.

Five different UCR players have pitched this season. Chrys Hildebrand anchors the staff as she is 3-7 with a 3.63 ERA. She pitched a team-high 60.2 innings and has struck out a UC Riverside best 60 batters this season. This is the 107th, 108th, and 109th meetings between CSUN and UC Riverside with the Matadors leading the all-time series 93-13.

Playing a Big West Conference only schedule so far, the Matadors are 2-13. Despite the team record, CSUN has been in nearly every game in 2021. Nine of the 13 games have either been decided by one or two runs. The Matadors are 2-7 in those games.

Alexis Lemus has appeared in 12 games for CSUN this season and recorded at least one hit and has reached base in 11 of those games after having that streak halted in the final UC Davis game on Apr. 17. Lemus has recorded two multi-hit games in 2021. Lemus hit .375 with a run scored and a stolen base in the Cal State Fullerton series Apr. 9-10.

Jaymi Steward hit her 10th career home run against Long Beach State Apr. 3. After hitting her team-leading fourth home run last week against Cal State Fullerton, she now has 12 beginning this week. Steward currently leads CSUN in slugging percentage (.651), and on-base percentage (.400). She begins this weekend second on the team in hitting (.302).Â
