Matadors Split Final Regular Season Tri-Dual

CSU Bakersfield-CSUN Final Results // Long Beach State-CSUN Final Results
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The CSUN beach volleyball team split its final regular season tri-dual Saturday, defeating CSU Bakersfield before falling to No. 18 Long Beach State as seniors Meagan Carter and Lauren McMurray played at the CSUN Beach Volleyball Complex for the final time.
CSUNÂ 3, CSU BAKERSFIELD 2
The Matadors (10-13) opened the day by avenging a 3-2 loss to the Roadrunners in San Luis Obispo on Mar. 27. CSU Bakersfield picked up the first point of the dual when Emily Hansen and Hana Makonova topped Lexi McLeod and Seyvion Waggoner, 21-14, 21-14 in the No. 2 pair. The second final of the opening flight evened the dual as Lauren McMurray and Kailey Klein swept Hayley McCluskey and Mapuhola Sekona at No. 4, 21-18, 21-14. The win for McMurray was the 47th of her CSUN career which extends her program record.
With the team score tied 1-1 heading in the second flight, the Roadrunners grabbed their second win when Milica Vukobrat and Cameron Solberg defeated Carter and Lauren Eknoian in the No. 1 pair, 21-10, 21-11. CSUN got even when the No. 3 pair went final as Darbi Honeycutt and Mikaela Maughan defeated Brooke Boiseau and Anna Unke by the score of 21-12, 21-17. The win by Honeycutt and Maughan, their 11th of the season which ties for the team lead, set up the No. 5 pair to decide the dual match. CSUN's True McCullough and Emily Sparks would dispatch Seleisa Elisaia and Alaina Gendale, 21-17, 21-14 to pick up the Matadors' 10th win of the season.

NO. 18Â LONG BEACH STATE 5, CSUNÂ 0
Looking to close the home schedule on a winning note, CSUN came up short against 18th-ranked Long Beach State. The Beach claimed the first three matches, including the No. 6 exhibition contest. The No. 4 pair was the first to go final as Alice Pratesi and Kenzie Holtz defeated McMurray and Klein, 21-10, 21-18. Long Beach went up 2-0 when Makenzie Griffin and Skyler Germann swept McLeod and Waggoner in the No. 2 pair, 21-15, 21-13. Claire Newlander and Sophie Major then completed the opening flight by taking the No. 6 exhibition match over Eknoian and Abbey Sweeting by the score of 21-13, 21-19.
The Beach clinched the dual with a straight-set win at No. 5 as Emily Mattoon and Jillian Rodriguez topped McCullough and Sparks by the score of 21-12, 21-18. Long Beach State's No. 3 pair of Nicci Reinking and Katie Kennedy then swept Honeycutt and Maughan, 21-12, 21-13 with the only final remaining on center court. Carter paired with Victoria Rogers for the first time this season and battled the Beach's No. 1 pair of Tyler Spriggs and Mari Molina before Long Beach pulled out a three-set (21-18, 19-21, 15-8) victory.

I'm extremely proud of my team for battling hard all day, and a special shout-out to our seniors who truly left it all out on our home sand."
