Matadors Take On Cal Poly In Big West Tournament Thursday

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN women's tennis team enters the Big West Tournament this week.

The Matadors (7-5, 4-4 Big West) are the sixth seed and will take on the third seed, Cal Poly (12-2, 6-2 Big West) Thursday at 11:30 a.m. The winner of the dual will face the winner of the quarterfinal between the second seed Cal State Fullerton (12-5, 6-2 Big West) and No. 7 UC Irvine (2-10, 2-6 Big West) on Friday at 9 a.m..

On the other side of the bracket, UC Santa Barbara is the regular season champion as the Gauchos went 8-0 in Big West play and are 10-3 overall. UCSB faces the eighth seed, UC Riverside (0-9, 0-8 Big West) with the winner of that dual taking on the winner of the dual between the fourth seed, UC Davis (8-7, 5-3 Big West) and No. 5 Hawai'i (6-7, 4-4 Big West).

The finals will be played on Saturday at 9 a.m. After 14 years in Indian Wells, the tournament is being played for the first time at Orange County Great Park in Irvine for the first time.

Freshman Magdalena Hedrzak is 7-0 in singles play while senior Ekatarina Repina (6-2) and Sasha Turchak (6-3) have won six singles matches. Playing with three different partners, Hedrzak leads the team in doubles' wins with six (6-4).

Cal State Fullerton defeated CSUN 4-1 in the final regular-season dual Apr. 21. Hedrzak handed Eira Tobrand a 6-2, 6-1 defeat at No. 2 singles for the lone CSUN point of the dual.
