Matadors' Four-Match Win Streak Snapped by No. 9 Grand Canyon

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The CSUN Beach Volleyball team had its four-match win streak snapped Friday as No. 9 Grand Canyon swept the Matadors 5-0 Friday afternoon at the CSUN Beach Volleyball Complex.
The Matadors slip to 9-10 on the season while the Lopes improve to 14-5. GCU opened the dual with a win in the No. 4 pair as Allanis Navas and Paula Hoffman swept the Matadors' Lauren McMurray and Kailey Klein, 21-8, 21-10. The visitors made it 2-0 when Teagan DeFalco and Allison Hansen swept Lexi McLeod and Seyvion Waggoner by the count of 21-9, 21-14 at No. 2. The teams also played a No. 6 exhibition match to close the first flight as True McCullough and Emily Sparks topped GCU's Justine Spann and Madison Banter, 22-20, 21-18.
The first match to go final in the second flight clinched the dual for the Lopes as Anaya Evans and Bella Bauman swept Meagan Carter and Lauren Eknoian in the No. 1 pair, 21-17, 21-9. Darbi Honeycutt and Mikaela Maughan battled in the No. 3 pair before falling 21-18, 21-15 to GCU's Taylor Jarzombek and Made Relaz. The final pair to go final gave the Lopes the sweep as Katie Sarber and Natalie Honzovicova took care of Victoria Rogers and Abbey Sweeting by the score of 21-8, 21-15.

"Facing a ranked opponent today exposed what we still need to work on, individually among our pairs, as well as collectively as a team. Tomorrow provides another opportunity to respond."

The Matadors host the Lopes for a second straight day along with No. 19 Long Beach State in a Saturday tri-dual. CSUN and Grand Canyon open the day at 11 a.m., with the Lopes taking on the Beach at 1 p.m. before the Matadors and Long Beach finish the day at 3 p.m.
