Honeycutt & Maughan Named All-Big West Honorable Mention

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - CSUN's junior pair of Darbi Honeycutt and Mikaela Maughan earned honorable mention honors as the 2021 Big West Beach Volleyball All-Conference team was announced by the conference office.
Honeycutt and Maughan, who earned second-team All-Big West honors as a pair in 2019, led CSUN with a 13-13 record in 2021. Playing in the No. 3 pair for the Matadors, Honeycutt and Maughan won a team-high 13 times, including twice in three matches at the Big West Championship.
The pair completed their third season playing together in 2021 and have a program-best 32 career wins as a duo. Honeycutt and Maughan finished 17-11 in their first season (2018) before posting a 4-1 record during the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign. In finishing 13-12 at No. 3 and 0-1 at No. 2 this season, the third-year duo put together a five-match winning streak from Mar. 27-Apr. 3.
"I'm so proud of Darbi and Mikaela earning another all-conference accolade," said head coach Noelle Rooke. "After garnering second-team All-Big West honors as freshmen in 2019, I had no doubts they would follow it up with another recognition last year as sophomores had our 2020 season not been cut short due to the pandemic. As a duo, they continue to be our most consistent pair and I'm ecstatic that the success they've had on the sand is backed by another honor."
CSUN has now had seven pairs named all-conference in five seasons of Big West beach volleyball. Taylor Brydon and Lauren McMurray (honorable mention) joined Honeycutt and Maughan on the 2020 All-Big West Team. Katie Sato and Aeryn Owens earned second team honors in 2018 while Sato also earned honorable mention honors with Lauren Conati in 2016. Maddie Leiphardt and Nicki Williams also picked up second team accolades in 2017 while Leiphardt and Julie Haake were the Matadors' first-ever second team recipients in 2016.Â
