NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN has announced that due to family reasons, Lindsey Foster has resigned as head women's basketball coach of the Matadors effective immediately.
"I've made the difficult decision to resign my role as head coach here at CSUN," said Foster. "Going through a time that we all are currently experiencing has forced everyone, myself included, to reassess many things. In our program, my student-athletes and staff know that family always comes first. Despite my passion for coaching and my passion for CSUN and our women's basketball program, I believe now is the best time for me to step away from the coaching profession for family reasons."
Foster, a 10-year member of the CSUN women's basketball coaching staff, served as head coach for CSUN a year ago as the Matadors withdrew from the 2019-20 season due to COVID-19 concerns. In the downtime, Foster signed seven newcomers including three (De'jah Williams, Emma Merriweather, and Jayda Adams) who have prior Division I playing experience.
"We thank Lindsey for her dedicated service to CSUN," said Director of Athletics Mike Izzi. "She has mentored countless women's basketball student-athletes over the years and we wish her nothing but the best in all her future endeavors."
Foster initially joined the CSUN women's basketball program as an assistant coach before to the start of the 2010-11 season. She was promoted to Associate Head Coach before the start of the 2014-15 season. As a member of the Matador staff, Foster helped guide CSUN to three NCAA Tournament appearances, three Big West Tournament titles, one Big West Conference regular-season championship, and 150 victories.
"It has been an honor to serve as the head coach of the CSUN women's basketball program," Foster added. "I want to express my gratitude to Colin Donahue and Mike Izzi for the opportunity to lead this program and for their support. I also want to thank our athletic administration, my fellow coaching colleagues, and CSUN's department support staff, who have all been incredible to work with. I am grateful for the time I had with our student-athletes and my coaching staff. They have all made an indelible impact on my life. I will truly miss being a part of the Matador family."
