NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---Forward Cindy Arteaga earned the final Big West Offensive Player of the Week award of the season on Friday, the league office announced. Arteaga notched her second brace in the Matadors' 4-2 win over UC Riverside on Thursday evening.
Arteaga helped the Matadors get off to a quick start with a goal in the sixth minute of play, scoring off a pass from Kacie Garrity. In similar fashion, Arteaga found the back of the net early in the second half in the 50th minute. For her second goal, Arteaga was the recipient of a cross from Cassidy Imperial-Pham where she would score from the top of the box with a bouncing shot. CSUN would pick up its first conference win of the season in the triumph over the Highlanders.
Originally from Santa Rosa, Arteaga finished the 2022 campaign with a career-high nine goals and 19 points. Her nine goals are tied for the second-most in school history for a single season while her 19 points rank seventh-most in the CSUN record book. Arteaga's season scoring totals pushed her career goal tally to 12, which ranks eighth-best in program history, to go with five assists and 29 points. In three seasons on the pitch, Arteaga has played in 60 matches and started 50 times over her CSUN career.
Arteaga, who participated in Senior Day festivities and will graduate in the spring, finished the regular season second in The Big West in goals and points while she shared first place with Long Beach State's Lena Silano in shots with 78.
"Cindy was so good yesterday, it was a lot of fun to watch," said head coach Christine Johnson. "She is such a dynamic player on and off the ball and her ability to strike the ball on frame is such a dangerous offensive weapon for us. She still has so much untapped potential. I'm excited to see what the future holds for her."
The award was Arteaga's second of the season. She previously took home the Offensive Player of the Year award on Sept. 19 when she scored four times over three CSUN games.
