BOISE, Idaho---CSUN Women's Soccer dropped its 2026 season opener to Boise State by a 3-0 score on Wednesday at Boas Soccer Complex. Goalkeeper Hayden Mauldin made her return to the field for the first time in three seasons as she posted six saves on the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mauldin made her first save of the match in the seventh minute, stopping an attempt from Madie Donovan. CSUN kept pace with Boise State through the early portions of the first half, but the Broncos finally broke the scoreless tie in the 22nd minute. Off a CSUN turnover, the Broncos drove up the field leading to Sophie Schmautz setting up Campbell Wilson for a strike just inside the box. Mauldin kept the ball out of the net in the 30th minute with a save off the foot of Donovan, however, the Broncos kept pressuring the Matador defense throughout the half. Olivia Collins would add to the Bronco lead in the 39th minute, scoring on a shot from the left side that ricocheted off the post and into the net.

Ariana Lopez-Angel had CSUN's lone shot on goal on the night in the 44th minute off a free kick from 20 yards out. Ava de Leest though knocked the Lopez-Angel attempt over the crossbar to keep the Broncos ahead by two goals at the half.

Wilson completed a brace early in the second half, utilizing a pass from Mia Lane to give the Broncos a 3-0 advantage. Boise State would generate seven corner kicks in the second half alone, but the Matadors withstood each chance. Mauldin helped keep the Broncos off the scoreboard late with two saves over the final three minutes of action.

NOTES OF THE GAME

The Broncos led in the shot department 19-3 while holding a 9-1 edge in shots on goal.
Boise State finished with 10 corner kicks compared to two for CSUN.
Lopez-Angel finished with a team-high two shots including one on goal. Jordyn Canister had the Matadors' only other shot.
Defenders Sydney Lipkin, Siena Navarra and Alex Valente played the full 90 minutes.
Mauldin made her first appearance in a match since Oct. 22, 2023. She had missed the past two seasons with injury.
Wednesday represented the first-ever meeting between CSUN and Boise State in women's soccer.
