11/14/2022 12:22:00 PM | Men's Basketball
FULL GAME NOTES
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Men's Basketball makes its first trip in program history to California Baptist to take on the Lancers on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ while Ghizal Hasan and Alan Zinsmeister have the call in an audio broadcast at GoMatadors.com/Radio.
LAST TIME OUT
CSUN suffered its first defeat of the season on Saturday as Utah Tech prevailed 69-63 in St. George, Utah. Trailing by 21 points with less than six minutes to play, CSUN outscored Utah Tech 22-7 down the stretch of the game and pulled to within five points in the final minute. Dionte Bostick led the furious rally, scoring a career-high 31 points including 19 points in the second half. De'Sean Allen-Eikens added 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
CSUN out-rebounded Utah Tech 44-38 in the game but was hampered by poor shooting for most of the night. The Matadors shot 34.3 percent for the game after shooting less than 31 percent in the first half. CSUN also made just 5-of-21 from 3-point range and 12-of-25 from the free throw line.
COACH TRENT JOHNSON ON UTAH TECH GAME
"We lost our poise with three minutes to go in the first half. We tried to do things individually, which was very disappointing. Then to start the second half, we had some ill-advised turnovers that put us behind the eight-ball. This game is fair. The things we talked about and work on always are about playing with some physicality, taking care of the ball, catching the ball with two hands and executing our offense. It was disappointing because I didn't expect us to go off on our own like that. It's hard to win on the road when you play like that."
MATADOR HEADLINES
Dionte Bostick's career-high night was the most points scored by a Matador since TJ Starks tallied 31 points against Hawai'i on Feb. 19, 2021. A CSUN newcomer this season, Bostick's previous career-high in points was a 15-point effort as a member of Murray State in Feb. 2021. He also set a new career-high in field goals made (10), 3-point field goals made (3) and free throws made (8) against Utah Tech.
Onyi Eyisi just missed a double-double in Saturday's loss at Utah Tech. The 6-9 center scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds in 20 minutes of action. Off the bench, John Wade III collected seven rebounds to go with two points.
Through two games this season, Bostick is averaging a team-high 17.0 points while De'Sean Allen-Eikens is scoring 11.5 points and Atin Wright is registering 10.0 points per game.
