CSUN Closes Regular Season This Week Against UCSB & Hawai'i

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN Women's Basketball team (9-16, 5-10 Big West) concludes the regular season when CSUN hosts UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday before traveling to Hawai'i on Thursday.

Tuesday's game against the Gauchos is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+ with Jill Painter Lopez on the call. UC Santa Barbara is 14-10 overall after defeating UC Davis on Feb. 26 in Santa Barbara. The win broke a three-game losing streak for UCSB.

Ila Lane leads the Big West in rebounding (9.4) and field goal shooting (58.4). She is seventh in blocked shots (0.9). Danae Miller is sixth in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio, seventh in assists (3.1), and ninth in scoring (12.6). The Gauchos defeated the Matadors 61-54 Jan. 25 in Riverside. UCSB leads the all-time series 48-20.

Thursday's game will begin at 9 p.m. PT/7 p.m. HT and will be streamed on ESPN+. Winners of three in a row, Hawai'i is 15-9 overall and has maintained the Big West lead with an 11-3 mark.

Amy Atwell is the conference leader in scoring (18.0). She is second in free throw shooting (84.8), second in three-point field goals per game (2.3), fourth in field goal shooting (45.1), and sixth in rebounding (6.5). Hawai'i defeated CSUN 76-67 Jan. 29 in Northridge to take a 12-11 all-time series lead.

CSUN is heading towards the Big West Tournament with four games remaining in the regular season. All 10 eligible teams (UC San Diego is ineligible until 2024) advance to the tournament with teams that finish in seventh, eighth, ninth, and 10th place in the regular season having to begin the tournament on Tuesday, Mar. 8. The winners of the 7-10 and 8-9 games advance to play on Wednesday, Mar. 9.

Currently, Cal State Fullerton and CSUN are tied for seventh (5-10) with CSU Bakersfield in ninth (3-9) and Cal Poly (2-11) in 10th. The Titans would be the seventh seed as Cal State Fullerton has defeated the Matadors twice this season.

Hawai'i is the league leader at 11-3. UC Irvine at 12-4 is in second followed by Long Beach State at 11-5. UC Riverside is in fourth (8-6) while UC Santa Barbara is in fifth (8-7) with UC Davis in sixth (7-7). Â

The Matadors went 0-2 last week. UC Davis defeated CSUN 58-50 last Thursday night. Meghann Henderson led all scorers with a season-high 16 points. She also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and made three steals. Jordyn Jackson was the only other CSUN player in double-figures as she scored 11.

UC Riverside defeated CSUN 72-59 last Saturday. Tess Amundsen was CSUN's only scorer in double figures as she posted 14 points. Michelle Duchemin, Jackson, and Spriggs, each scored eight. Macy Smith scored seven points. Meghann Henderson scored six points, grabbed four rebounds, had one assist, and one steal.
