THE NUMBERS
UC Santa Barbara held a 24-4 advantage in free throw attempts. UCSB was 15-of-24 while CSUN went 4-4. The Gauchos shot 51.7% in the second half (15-of-29), outscoring CSUN 44-18. Tucker led all scorers for UC Santa Barbara with 23. She was 11-of-16 from the free throw line. ACCORDING TO INTERIM HEAD COACH CARLENE MITCHELL
"We played most of the first half with Kayanna Spriggs in foul trouble. Having Spriggs in foul trouble allowed us to open it up a little bit more on the offensive end. However, in the second half, UCSB went inside to Lane, and she became a little bit too much for us to handle in the low block."
"Looking at the final stats, the biggest thing that jumps out is the offensive rebounding. When we needed to make a critical stop in the second half, they would get second and third opportunities and that was probably the difference in the game. You will not win every many games when you are at 24-4 disadvantage at the free throw line. We need to do a better job of keeping our opponents off the free throw line."
"Hawai'i will be our fourth game in eight days. Our kids have become used to the routine of having one day to prepare and having to travel. We will only be there for a short time before we come back and get ready for the Big West Tournament."
