CSUN Defeats Youngstown State 4-3

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN and Youngstown State battled to the final singles match before the Matadors defeated the Penguins 4-3 Thursday afternoon at the Matador Tennis Complex.
Victoria Santibañez Luna and Jenna Dorian began the match with a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles against Eliska Masarikova and Elisa Rigazio. Magdalena Hedrzak and Sasha Turchak clinched the doubles point as the CSUN duo defeated Jessica Stanmore and Lili Minich 6-4 at No. 2.
Jenna Dorian opened singles play at No. 6. Dorian led Lili Minich 6-4, 4-1 before Minich retired. Ana Isabel Fraile Toboso earned a straight-set victory Masarikova (6-4, 7-5) at No. 2 singles.
"I am so proud of how hard the team fought, and we were able to get the win," said Fraile Toboso.
Julia Marko got Youngstown State (5-7) on the board when she defeated Hedrzak 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3. Rigazio defeated Turchak 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in the No. 4 singles play. Cecilia Rosas tied the dual when she came back from a 6-1 loss in the first set to Jolene Coetzee at No. 1 to take the next two sets 6-4, 6-2.
Santibañez Luna won the dual for the Matadors at No. 5 singles. Jessica Stanmore took the first set 6-4 before Santibañez Luna won the second in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4). The third set went in favor of Santibañez Luna 6-4.
"Youngstown is an amazing tennis team, but we came out with the win, and I couldn't be prouder of how far we have come as a team," Dorian said. "I continue to try my hardest for my and get the win. I strive to set an example for my teammates because I am an upperclassman. I want to take every moment in and today was so memorable with Vika (Victoria) clinching the match for us!"
