NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - CSUN men's volleyball associate head coach Theo Edwards will return to the USA Volleyball sidelines in May as an assistant coach with the 2022 Boys Under-19 National Training Team.
Edwards, who most recently coached the USA Volleyball Boys' Youth National Team at the 2017 FIVB Boys' U19 World Championship in Bahrain, will join head coach Charlie Sullivan's staff along with Purdue-Fort Wayne assistant coach Lindsay Brown.
A total of 21 players will open practice at the national team training center in Anaheim on May 11. A final team of 12 players will be selected to travel to Guatemala for the 2022 Boys U19 Pan Am Cup will be held May 21-19 in Guatemala City.Â
"Since things have been interesting across the globe due to COVID the last couple years, it's nice to get back and be in a position to travel to Guatemala and compete on an international stage," said Edwards. "When we start training in Anaheim in May, the players on this U19 team will get their first real experience playing internationally for USA Volleyball. There's a lot of training to do and lot to be learned."
Edwards was an assistant on Sam Shweisky's coaching staff - along with UCLA's Brad Keller - in Bahrain in 2017. The same staff coached the U19 Team at the 2016 NORCECA Championships in Cuba as part of the same two-year cycle.
"I'm excited to work with the staff on this U19 team," said Edwards. "Charlie and I have worked together many times and he does a great job. Lindsay and I get along great and she also does a terrific job."Â
Edwards is currently in the home stretch of the 2022 CSUN men's volleyball season, his 12th on Jeff Campbell's staff.
