CSUN Finishes Up Home Season By Sweeping Final Tri-Dual

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - CSUN Beach Volleyball not only swept its final home tri-dual but also celebrated one its greatest graduating classes in program history in the process Saturday at the Matador Beach Volleyball Complex.
On the sand, CSUN swept Life Pacific, 5-0 in the opener of the tri-dual before completing the afternoon with a 5-0 sweep over Saint Katherine. Following the day's final dual match, CSUN honored its record-setting senior class of Darbi Honeycutt, Kailey Klein, Mikaela Maughan, Victoria Rogers and Seyvion Waggoner. Since 2019, the group has helped the Matadors to 46 wins over three-plus seasons.
Klein and Rogers won both matches on Saturday giving Klein the 49th and 50th individual wins of her four-year career. Klein, a Matador since 2019, came into the day tied with former partner Lauren McMurray with 48 career wins and took over as the program leader in the morning's first dual. Honeycutt and Maughan have played together a majority of their time at CSUN (2019-22) and hold the program's all-time pairs record with 40 wins and counting. Maughan also ranks third in individual wins with 46 followed by Honeycutt who ranks fourth with 45. Waggoner, also a four-year letterwinner, is eighth in program history with 31 individual wins after Saturday and Rogers has 28 career wins (19 this season) in two seasons after transferring from San Francisco.

The Matadors opened the day with their second 5-0 sweep over the Warriors in 24 hours. As they did on Friday, Klein and Rogers picked up CSUN's first win in the No. 4 pairs, sweeping Daniela Horvath and Bailey Collette, 21-8, 21-10. Waggoner and True McCullough also won in straight sets at No. 2, defeating Justyne Dagdagan and Audrianna Guzman, 21-7, 21-11. The Matadors clinched the team win when Jadin Williams and Layla Cederlind swept Marissa Ryerson and Alyssa McClure in the No. 5 pairs match by the score of 21-11, 21-12.
Honeycutt and Maughan then added to their program pairs record total with their 39th career win in sweeping Lindsey Johnson and Mackenzie Grooms in the No. 3 pairs, 21-11, 21-11. CSUN then finished the 5-0 team sweep when Lauren Eknoian and Emily Sparks topped Hannah Caddow and MacKenzie Stewart in the No. 1's on center court, 21-14, 21-12.Â

After Saint Katherine swept Life Pacific in the middle dual, CSUN improved to 15-13 record with a 5-0 sweep over the Firebirds to cap the tri-dual. Klein and Rogers posted a quick 21-10, 21-7 win over Grace Burkett and Morgan Alexander in the No. 4's before McCullough and Waggoner also won decisively in No. 2's (21-4, 21-13) over Mackenzie Nutting and Aubrey Cardoza. Williams and Cederlind again earned the clinching point for CSUN, going three sets to defeat Destiney Williams and Lauren Erickson in the No 5 pairs (13-21, 21-17, 15-13).
The Matadors then handily won the final two matches as Honeycutt and Maughan closed out Camille Harvey and Rene Wash, 21-11, 21-12 in the No. 3's before Eknoian and Sparks swept Casside Salcido and Olivia Muriel, 21-17, 21-13 to complete Saturday's tri-dual.

CSUN (15-13) will have three more matches in the regular season, all on the road, beginning Apr. 8 with a tri-dual against Pepperdine and Saint Mary's in Malibu. CSUN's final pre-Big West Championship tune-up will be Apr. 23 at Long Beach State.
