NORTHRIDGE, Calif.-- CSUN travels to CSU Bakersfield this week. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1 p.m., with Sunday's series finale beginning at 1 p.m. ESPN+ will stream all three games.
Â
After dropping three games at Hawai'i last weekend, the Roadrunners fell to 8-28, 3-15 in Big West play. Cydney Curran leads the team in hitting (.314), RBI (12), runs (14), hits (32), slugging percentage (.471), and on-base percentage (.381).
Â
Three pitchers have picked up a win for the 'Runners. Kaycie Kennedy is a team-best 4-6 in the circle. In innings pitched, Reina Castillo is sixth in the Big West (111.1). She has started a team-high 20 times and is 2-16.
Â
Although this is the first time CSUN and CSUB are playing a Big West series (after CSU Bakersfield opted out of 2021), the teams are longtime rivals dating back to the CCAA days. The Matadors lead the all-time series 48-17 and have won nine in a row dating back to Feb. 27, 2015, when the Roadrunners defeated CSUN 7-6 during the CSUN/LMU Tournament.
Â
CSUN (17-28, 7-11 Big West) went 1-2 last weekend at home against UC Riverside. The Highlanders defeated the Matadors 11-1 in the opener before the Matadors rallied to win 6-5 in the second game of the series. CSUN honored former head coach Gary Torgeson during Saturday's pregame with a banner in left centerfield with the "#1" on it. UCR defeated CSUN 4-3 in 12 innings to complete the series later Saturday.
Â
Freshman Kaylee Escutia moved to first base at the start of the UC Davis series from right field, and the move has shown promise. Escutia recorded 19 putouts in the 12-inning 4-3 loss to UC Riverside on Apr. 23, which ties her for the fourth-most in a game with Katie Hooper (vs. Hawai'i, Apr. 7, 2017) and Scia Maumuaslo (at Cal State Fullerton, 2/13/94) by a Matador at the Division I level. Escutia has recorded 63 putouts in six games at first base and has moved to third on the team in the category (95).
Â
Kenedee Jamerson went a career-high 11 innings in the 4-3 12-inning loss to UC Riverside on Apr. 23. Her performance ties her with five others for the eighth-most in a Division I game by a CSUN pitcher. In addition, Jamerson has reached the CSUN top 10 in career appearances (116, sixth), games started (78, seventh), and career saves (tied for eighth with five with Daphne Pofek).
