NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN (13-23, 3-6 Big West) Softball team returns home to host Cal State Fullerton this weekend. The series begins with a single game on Friday at 1 p.m. before wrapping up with a doubleheader that gets underway at 1 p.m. All three games will stream on ESPN+ with all links on GoMatadors.com.
Â
On Saturday, CSUN will be hosting a Pink Game against Cal State Fullerton. Breast cancer survivor Anne Bergeron will be throwing out the first pitch. Anne is a wife, mother, and school psychologist, born and raised in Long Beach, California, and a graduate of Long Beach State. In July 2017, she was diagnosed in July of 2017, just three months after having a mammogram where nothing was detected.
Â
In August of that year, Anne started treatment with City of Hope and the Long Beach Memorial Todd Cancer Center. She completed six cycles of Chemotherapy with surgery in January 2018. At the time of surgery, the Chemotherapy was 100% effective in shrinking tumors, and there was "No Evidence of Disease." This July marks five years since diagnosis and five years of no cancer.
Â
Anne and her family are grateful for the research on the specific kind of breast cancer she had and the advancements and availability of a particular type of Chemotherapy called Herceptin, which was researched and developed locally by scientists at UCLA. However, the real heroes were her family, husband Greg, children Natalie, Nicole, Brooks, and ALL the medical staff at Todd Cancer, who Anne-Marie is still close to today.
Â
CSUN will be giving away swag while supplies last. Supplies include Pink C Tee-shirts, wrist bands, visors for in-game promos, and pink poms.
Â
Cal State Fullerton is one of three teams (along with Hawai'i and Long Beach State) tied for first in the Big West with a 7-2 league mark. The Titans are 22-13 overall. At .390, Megan Delgadillo enters this week 25th in Division I in hits with 46. Hannah Becerra is the Big West leader in home runs with seven, while Daisy Munoz leads the league in doubles with 11 (24th in Division I this week). This season, four different Cal State Fullerton pitchers have won a game, with Myka Sutherlin leading the staff at 9-5. Her 92 strikeouts are 99th in Division I to begin the week. Cal State Fullerton leads the all-time series against CSUN 78-38-1.
Â
CSUN lost three one-run games at Long Beach State last weekend. The Matadors dropped an Apr. 2 doubleheader by a 1-0 and 6-5 count.
