NORTHRIDGE, Calif.--CSUN (21-29, 11-13 Big West) concludes the 2022 softball regular season this weekend at UC Santa Barbara.
The Matadors and Gauchos open the series Friday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader, followed by the finale on Saturday at 1 p.m. UCSB will provide a live stream for Friday's doubleheader. ESPN+ will stream Saturday's game.
The Gauchos are 15-36, 6-18 in Big West play after losing two of three games at UC Riverside last weekend. Madelyn McNally is hitting a team-high .374, the fourth highest in the Big West. She is also UCSB's leader in slugging (.496) and stolen bases (10). Maci Fines' 24 RBI is tops on the Gauchos.
The UC Santa Barbara pitching staff features the duo of Camryn Snyder and Lexy Mills. Snyder has posted a 7-10 record in 99.1 innings of work.
Mills has gone 5-13 while pitching 90.1 innings. The Matadors and the Gauchos are playing for the 118th, 119th, and 120th times, with CSUN leading the all-time series 72-44-1.
This weekend will mark the end of a pair of five-year careers for both Kenedee Jamerson and Jaymi Steward. Both players used the blanket COVID-19 waiver issued in 2020 due to the pandemic to continue their playing careers for a fifth Matador season in 2022.
After splitting time between first base and pitcher over the past two seasons, Jamerson has primarily pitched in 2022. She is 6-16 with a team-best 2.43 ERA. Jamerson has pitched 161.1 innings this season, the third-most in the Big West.
Jamerson, who is seventh in the Big West in strikeouts (85), reset her career-high with nine strikeouts against Weber State on Mar. 11. The 5-8 lefty went a career-high 11 innings in the 4-3 12-inning loss to UC Riverside on Apr. 23. Her performance ties her with five others for the eighth-most in a Division I game by a CSUN pitcher.
Jamerson, who graduated in the Spring of 2021 with her bachelor's in psychology, is currently pursuing a master's in early childhood education. She has reached the CSUN top 10 in career appearances (120, sixth), games started (82, seventh), and career saves (tied for eighth with five with Daphne Pofek).
Steward is hitting .375 with four home runs and 16 RBI in 24 Big West games. The Redlands native has scored 15 runs while posting a .625 slugging percentage and a .444 on-base percentage. She is 7-8 in stolen bases and has not committed an error in 46 chances (43 putouts-3 assists) in centerfield. Steward was named Big West Field Player of the Week on Mar. 21 after hitting .600 over the opening weekend.
Steward leads the team in hitting (.308), home runs (6), RBI (26), slugging percentage (.484), on-base percentage (.389), and stolen bases (17). In addition, the CSUN centerfielder tied the school Division I record for most stolen bases in a game when she stole three against Southern Utah on Feb. 19.
Steward is one of six players who have stolen three bases in a game for CSUN at the Division I level. Taylor Nate recently stole three bases against Utah State on Feb. 15, 2015. Her 17 stolen bases this season are tied for the 9th most in a season by a CSUN player at the Division I level with Jennifer Mosier (2011). In addition, Steward has proven to be durable as she has started 110 consecutive games dating back to Apr. 27, 2019, at UC Santa Barbara.
