FULL GAME NOTES
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Women's Soccer officially opens Big West play on Thursday with a road match at CSU Bakersfield on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Matadors (1-7) closes the week with a non-conference home match with Portland State on Sunday at 2 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
The Matadors continued non-conference action by hosting a pair of home matches over the past week. CSUN dropped a 2-0 decision to USC last Thursday before falling to UC Irvine 2-1 in a rescheduled non-conference game on Monday.
Against the Trojans, the Matadors surrendered two first-half goals within a six-minute span which proved to be too much to overcome. Hayden Mauldin would record 10 saves in front of the net, setting a career-high for the freshman.
CSUN and UC Irvine had to wait a day to finally square off at Matador Soccer Field last Monday. UCI would strike early in each half, scoring in the 10th minute and in the 49th minute to build a 2-0 lead. Cindy Arteaga racked up eight of the Matadors' 14 shots on the night while freshman Cassidy Imperial-Pham has two shots on goal. The Matadors earned a penalty shot in the 90th minute, which Arteaga scored to cut the deficit to 2-1. CSUN though could not get a shot in the final seconds as UCI held on the rest of the way.Â
