CSUN to Run in Pepperdine Waves Invitational Saturday

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN men's and women's cross country teams return to action Saturday when the Matadors compete in the Pepperdine Waves Invitational.
The men's 8k race begins at 9 a.m. The women's 6k race gets underway at 9:45 a.m. CSU Bakersfield, Cal State Monterey Bay, CSUN, and Pepperdine are scheduled to compete.
CSUN last competed on Sept. 17 at the UC Riverside Invitational. On the men's side, freshman Camilo Torres posted the eighth fastest time by a Matador since 2000 as he scored 82nd place points by going 24:59.5. CSUN finished 23rd in the field of 31 (641). Cal Poly (59) was the team winner. Arizona State's Vincent Mauri was the individual winner (23:25.7).
In the women's competition, Nicole Contreras turned in the top CSUN performance. She ran 22:13.8, the 10th fastest Matador 6k time since 2000. She was awarded 118th place points, running 127th overall. The Matadors placed 31st in the team competition (879) as Arizona won with a score of 140 points. Long Beach State's Ryley Fick won the individual race (20:07.5).
