CSUN Posts Second Consecutive Shutout Victory

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN posted its second consecutive shutout victory as the Matadors defeated Westmont 7-0 in women's tennis action Saturday afternoon at the Matador Tennis Complex.
Victoria Santibañez Luna and Cindy Ung opened doubles play with a 6-2 victory at No. 3 against Silva Sabina and Logan Jackson. Sasha Turchak and Yuliia Zhytelna handed Arden Samuels and Liska Knighta a 6-2 defeat in the No. 2 slot. Jolene Coetzee and Angela Ho wrapped up doubles play with a 6-2 victory at No. 1 versus Francesca Aguirre and Sophia Ostovany.
Ho earned CSUN's inaugural singles victory when she defeated Jackson 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Vitoria Solis posted a straight sets victory (6-1, 6-0) in No. 4 play against Sabina. Zhytelna defeated Ostovany 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 2 slot. Santibañez Luna followed by defeating Samuels 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3.
Coetzee posted a 6-0, 6-4 victory in No. 1 play versus Aguirre. Play concluded with a three-set match at No. 6. Emma Moratalla Sanz took the opening set against Justine Sptizer. Spitzer tied it up with a 6-4 victory in the second set. Finally, Moratella Sanz won 10-7 in the third to wrap up the shutout. The Matadors improved to 18-0 all-time against Westmont.

"The match was not particularly challenging, which allowed me to work on areas of my game that need improvement," Solis said. "Overall, I am proud of the team and myself."
"I am pleased about my performance and mentality during the match," Coetzee said. "I was confident the whole time, even when I was down on the second set, which is an improvement in mindset from previous matches. I loved the team's support and their performance; we're on point today."
"Today it was not my best day," Moratella Sanz said. "I started so well the match and in the second I did not manage well to close the games. Finally I was able to won the match with all of my team around. Last and not least I felt that we support and cheer for our team trough one court to another."
