FIRST PITCH
CSUN travels to the CBU Classic this week. The Matadors open the tournament Friday with games against Colorado State (10 a.m.) and Pacific (12:30 p.m.).

On Saturday, CSUN concludes pool play against the host, California Baptist. In addition, the Matadors will play a semifinal tournament game at either 3 or 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The third-place game will be played on Sunday at 10 a.m., with the tournament championship game coming at 12:30 p.m.

All games will have live stats, with the WAC Digital Network streaming any California Baptist games. In addition, all links will be available on GoMatadors.com.

ABOUT COLORADO STATE
The Rams went 3-2 to open the season at the New Mexico State Invitational. Molly Gates hit .556 with two home runs and four RBI. She posted a .889 slugging percentage and a .619 on-base percentage in five starts.

Five pitchers saw time for Colorado State in Las Cruces. Sydney Hornbuck was 2-1 with a 1.50 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 12 innings.

The Matadors are playing the Rams for the first time since 2018. A former WAC CSUN leads the all-time series against Colorado State 16-2.

ABOUT PACIFIC
The Tigers struggled to an 0-4 mark on opening weekend during the NorCal Kickoff. Pacific was outscored 24-4 during the tournament.

Talissa Montez hit .417 with Ryan Dirmeyer driving in three of the fourth Tigers' runs last weekend. Five pitchers appeared in the circle for Pacific, with four different starters getting the call.

CSUN and Pacific played in the Big West together from 1997 to 2013. The Matadors lead the all-time series 40-26.

ABOUT CBU
California Baptist kicked off 2023 at the Puerta Vallarta College Classic in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico. The Lancers came away with a 2-2 record before hosting cross-town rival UC Riverside on Feb. 15.

Deja Westbrook's .375 batting average was the team high for CBU in Mexico. Four pitchers saw action for California Baptist, with two, Presley Hosick and Jazmine Castaneda, each picking up a win.

This weekend's tournament is the second year in a row the Matadors are playing in a tournament hosted by CBU. The Lancers lead the all-time series against CSUN 3-2.
