SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - After 10 straight home matches to open the 2023 season, the CSUN beach volleyball played on the road for the first time Wednesday and blanked The Master's University, 5-0Â at the TMU Beach Volleyball Courts.
The Matadors (7-4) picked up their second straight 5-0 win, taking all 10 sets over the Mustangs while improving to 6-0 in the all-time series. Emily Sparks and Mikaela Maughan made quick work of Violet Avila and Kassidy Wilson in the No. 2 pair, opening the scoring with a 21-18, 21-6 win. Seyvion Waggoner and Mac McCarthy made it 2-0 CSUN by sweeping the No. 4 pair (21-14, 21-11) over Breanna Brooks and Ellie Niehus.Â

Sweeting and Griego share the team lead in wins (7) with Sparks and Maughan. Lauren Eknoian and Tasha Mae then picked up their sixth win of the season by sweeping Annika Booker and Evi Yates, 21-11, 21-12 before True McCullough and Victoria Rogers completed the afternoon with a 21-12, 21-14 win over Chloe Johnson and Faith Tarver in the No. 3 pair.Â

COACH ARI HOMAYUNÂ SAID
"The girls did a great job of coming out today and taking care of business. It was our first "road trip" of the season - even if it was only a 25 minute drive -Â and to have to play away on the last day of a long stretch of competition isn't easy, but the team came out and worked hard. Now we get to rest up and recharge for Sunday."
