USAFA, Colo. - Antoine Sale finished in the top 10 in his CSUN debut and the Matadors finished eighth as a team on Tuesday at the season opening Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational at the Eisenhower Blue Golf Course.
As a team, CSUN closed with a 3-over 291 on Tuesday to post its first top 10 finish of the season, tying for eighth at 10-over 874. Colorado State (851) overtook second round leader New Mexico to claim the team championship by 11 shots over Wyoming (862). The Matadors wound up posting team scores of 297-286-291 to finish eighth in the 24-team field.
Sale, a graduate transfer from Minnesota, had five birdies in the final round to post his first top 10 finish as a Matador. After opening the day in a tie for 18th, Sale had a pair of birdies and one bogey on the front nine to make the turn at 1-under. Another birdie at No. 10 moved him to 2-under on the day until a double bogey at No. 12 dropped him to even-par. He then added two more birdies - along with one bogey - over his final six holes to finish the day at 1-under 71 and the tournament at 1-under 215.

ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH JIM BRACKEN
"Antoine played solid today, had a couple of hiccups but recovered well to finish in the top 10. Brandon also played well, finishing at even-par to finish in the top-30. There were 24 teams in this tournament and we finished eighth so it's a good start to the season. I feel like this team hasn't even approached its potential yet and we've got a long season ahead of us."
CSUN will return to the course in two weeks as the Matadors travel to Fresno for the Nick Watney Invitational which will be held Sept. 25-26 at Fort Washington Country Club.
