CSUN Returns to Riverside for Highlander Invitational

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.- CSUN Cross Country will compete in its fourth meet of the 2024 season on Saturday morning at the Highlander Invitational hosted by UC Riverside. The men's 8k begins the competition at 8 a.m. followed by the women's 6k at 8:40 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Matadors completed their third invitational on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Masters Invitational with CSUN boasting several standout performances on both the men's and women's teams.Â

Junior Camilo Torres led the CSUN men's team for a third-straight meet with a time of 24:32.50 in the 8k race. He received 6th-place points and finished sixth place overall out of a total of 234 runners. Following Torres was junior Cesar Cuevas who had a time of 25:37:60 for 41st-place points and placed 45th overall. Freshman Thomas Achten was third among CSUN runners with a time of 25:44.70 for 52nd-place points and a 58th overall finish. Junior Ja'Patrick Smith also earned a new PR with a time of 25:51.80 for 57th place points (65th overall).Â

The CSUN men's team placed fifth out of a 26-team field with 219 points.Â

On the CSUN women's team, Jacobson placed the highest in the women's 6k with a time of 23:10.60 for 27th-place points and a 35th overall finish. Senior Sakura Divecchio was next with a time of 23:39.80 for 54th-place points, finishing 65th overall followed by Elin Markarian with a time of 23:55.60 to post 61st-place points (75th overall). Up next, junior Savannah Ganter made her season debut with a time of 24:09.30 for 67th-place points (83rd overall).

RETURNING TO RIVERSIDE
CSUN is making its second trip to UC Riverside this fall season. Both the men's and women's teams competed at the UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 21, which was highlighted by Camilo Torres recording the second-best men's 8k time in school history with a time of 24:25.1. Ami Jacobson was the top women's runner as she ran a time of 18:20.7 in a 5k race.

After this week's meet, CSUN will prepare for the 2024 Big West Cross Country Championships set for Saturday, Nov. 2 at UC Riverside. The men's team will compete in the 8k at 8:30 a.m. followed by the women's 6k at 9:15 a.m.
