NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - CSUN men's volleyball head coach Theo Edwards has announced the Matadors' 2025 schedule. CSUN will play a 28-match regular-season schedule before the 2025 Outrigger Big West Championship gets underway in Hawai'i on Apr. 24.
Beginning with the annual UCSB Invitational on Jan. 9, CSUN will play 18 non-conference matches, 10 of those inside Premier America Credit Union Arena in Northridge. The 10-match Big West schedule gets underway Mar. 5 against Long Beach State in Northridge.
"Our goal is always to put together the most competitive schedule we can in terms of positioning ourselves for a great postseason run," said Edwards who opens his third season at the helm. "Looking at the schedule as a whole, we're going to face every team that reached the final four last season, and to play all those teams at home is a great opportunity and test for our team."
As they've done 20 times in the last 21 years, the Matadors open the season at the annual UCSB Invitational at Robertson Gym. CSUN will meet Tusculum, Missouri S&T, and Menlo over the three-day tournament which runs from Jan. 9-11.
CSUN opens the home schedule on Jan. 17 against Purdue Fort-Wayne, the first of 16 matches the Matadors will play on their home court in 2025. The opening month of the season wraps up with non-conference home against Lindenwood (Jan. 18), USC (Jan. 22) and UCLA (Jan. 24).
"Having teams like UCLA and USC return to Northridge is a great opportunity for our fan base to see high-level volleyball and for our guys to play great volleyball teams like that at home," added Edwards.
February opens with a pair of road matches in Fairfax, Va. against St. Thomas Aquinas (Feb. 1) and George Mason (Feb. 2). A home match against Dominican on Feb. 7 and a road match at crosstown rival Pepperdine (Feb. 8) precede a season-long, six-match homestand. The Matadors will host Jessup University (Feb. 14), Grand Canyon (Feb. 19), Cal Lutheran (Feb. 28), Sacred Heart (Mar. 3), Long Beach State (Mar. 5), and Princeton (Mar. 12) on the homestand that spans nearly a month.
"We're traveling to George Mason for the first time since I've been a part of this program," said Edwards. "We graduated a lot of experienced guys this past year and the idea is to get our new guys some opportunities to travel across the country and compete. We're also taking a trip to Chicago in March and to get some big road matches against teams that were in the top 15 last year will be valuable in preparing us for the Big West season."
The 2025 Big West season opens Mar. 5 at home against Long Beach State before CSUN completes the series against the Beach Mar. 14 at the Walter Pyramid. CSUN will take a two-match trip to Chicago to meet Lewis and Loyola Chicago (Mar. 20-22) before Big West play resumes in earnest at the end of March.
CSUN will play home-and-home series against UC Santa Barbara (Mar. 28-29), UC San Diego (Apr. 10-12), and UC Irvine (Apr. 17-19) while hosting Hawai'i for two matches on Apr. 4-5.
"I'm sure the Big West will be exactly what we expect it to be, it's the best volleyball conference in the country," added Edwards. "I know the guys on this team are poised to make some noise in the Big West this season."
The 2025 Outrigger Big West Men's Volleyball Championship will be contested at SimpliFi Arena at the Stan Sheriff Center for the sixth time in seven years. After a pair of quarterfinal matches on Thursday (Apr. 24), semifinal matches will be played on Apr. 25 with the Big West Championship match slated for Saturday, Apr. 26.
The 2025 NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship will be hosted by Ohio State at the Covelli Center in Columbus, Ohio.
