CSUN Opens Home Schedule vs. Nobel on Wednesday

GAME NOTES
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Men's Basketball takes the floor at Premier America Credit Union Arena for the first time this season as the Matadors host Nobel University on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Ghizal Hasan and Alan Zinsmeister have the call on ESPN+ and GoMatadors.com/Radio.
FOR STARTERS
CSUN hosts its 2024-25 home opener on Wednesday as well as the team's only home game for the entire month of November. Following Wednesday's game, CSUN will play its next five games away from home, which will take the team through the first week of December. The Matadors' next home game will be their Big West opener against UC Riverside on Thursday, Dec. 5 at Premier America Credit Union Arena.
ABOUT LAST WEEK
CSUN kicked off the 2024-25 season with a trip to upstate New York as the Matadors finished the road trip with a 1-1 record. On Nov. 4, the Matadors' season opener took the team to St. Bonaventure where sluggish shooting and 21 total turnovers slowed CSUN in a 70-56 loss to the Bonnies. Senior Keonte Jones led the Matadors with 16 points and nine rebounds while Scotty Washington chipped in with nine points. CSUN shot 37.0 percent for the night and held St. Bonaventure to 36.4 percent shooting, but the Bonnies feasted at the free throw line, making 23-of-34 attempts compared to 10-of-16 for the Matadors.
CSUN would bounce back with a blowout win at Le Moyne last Wednesday, 97-75. The Matadors shot 55.0 percent for the night and outscored the Dolphins 49-32 in the second half in running away with the double-digit victory. Marcus Adams Jr. scored 21 points on 9-of-17 shooting off the bench while Washington added 21 points to go with 3-of-6 shooting from beyond the 3-point arc. Jones posted his first double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds while Mahmoud Fofana had 12 points and Judson Martindale chipped in with 11 points. In points in the paint, the Matadors dominated at a 42-8 margin.
CSUN's 97 points scored against Le Moyne was the Matadors' most against a Division I opponent since tallying 99 against Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 29, 2020.
CSUN IN OPENERS
The Matadors are 49-16 all-time in home openers entering Wednesday's first home game of the season. CSUN has won the past two home openers along with three of its last four and seven of its last 10 games.
MATADOR LEADERS SO FAR
Through two games of the season, junior newcomer Scotty Washington has emerged as the team's leading scorer at 15.0 points per game. Washington has made 47.6 percent of his shots while going 4-of-10 from three and averaging 4.5 rebounds. Senior Keonte Jones averaged a double-double last week, posting 13.0 points and 10.0 rebounds as he earned his way to the free throw line with regularity and made 13-of-17 attempts. After his big performance at Le Moyne, sophomore Marcus Adams Jr. is averaging 11.5 ponts and 4.0 rebounds while graduate Judson Martindale is registering 9.0 points per game off the bench. Senior PJ Fuller II tops CSUN in assists, averaging 4.5 per game to go with 7.5 points and 5.0 rebounds.
SCOUTING NOBEL UNIVERSITY
Nobel competes out of the National Christian College Athletic Association and are in its first-ever season of men's basketball. On the year, Nobel is 0-4 after dropping an 85-43 decision to Pomona-Pitzer this past Monday. Anthony McManus leads the Knight in scoring at 11.8 points per game to go with averaging 4.8 rebounds. Marcel Galloway has also been a top scorer on the year, posting 11.5 points per game through four contests.
Series History: CSUN will play Nobel for the first-ever time in any sport on Wednesday evening.
