
Cal Poly Tops CSUN 25-23, 25-20, 27-25

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Hailey Brockway led CSUN for the second straight match, putting down a match-high 15 kills but the Matadors fell to Cal Poly in straight sets (25-23, 25-20, 27-25) in a Big West match Saturday night at Mott Athletics Center.
After leading all hitters Friday in Santa Barbara, Brockway led CSUN (8-17, 3-11 Big West) with 15 kills on a match-high 34 swings to hit .294. Julia Bazylevych added seven kills (.095) off the bench but no other Matador hitter had more than four kills. Setter Katie Kolar narrowly missed her 14th double-double of the season with 26 assists and a match-high nine digs while libero Paige Sentes also had nine digs along with two aces for the Matadors.
Cal Poly out-hit the Matadors .306 to .174 and had 11 blocks to CSUN's six.
SET 1: CP 25, CSUN 23
CSUN used a Brockway kill and a Mustang hitting error to lead 11-9 and looked to have extended the margin to 12-9 lead following a Rojelio ace. The call was overturned but the Matadors would rebound with a 3-0 run to open up a 17-15 lead after by a Sentes ace. The hosts used an ensuing 5-3 run to tie the score at 20-20 when another Brockway kill kept the Matadors in front 21-20. Brockway's fifth and final kill of the set put CSUN up 23-22 but Cal Poly would claim the final three points to take a 25-23 win.
SET 2: CP 25, CSUN 20
The Mustangs outscored the Matadors 6-1 to open the set, forcing a CSUN timeout. A co-block from Okolo and Kolar trimmed the deficit to three (6-3) before a 6-2 Cal Poly run opened up a 12-5 advantage. An ace by Layla Cederlind kept the Matadors within four (16-12) but an ensuing 6-2 run by the Mustangs pushed the lead back to eight at 22-14.
SET 3: CP 27, CSUN 25
After Cal Poly scored the first three points to open the final set, CSUN put together a 4-0 run to take a 10-7 lead forcing a Mustang timeout. The hosts would rally back to tie the score 11-11 and six more ties would ensue, the last at 16-16. A Brockway kill fueled a 3-0 CSUN run (19-16) and the Matadors would lead by as many as four (21-17) after two more Brockway kills. Still up three at 23-20, Cal Poly score three times to tie the score before a Mustang service error gave the Matadors set point at 24-23. The Mustangs saved one set point before a Bazylevych kill gave CSUN another set point at 25-24. Cal Poly however answered with three straight points to seal the 27-25 win.

- Rojelio had one ace to increase her team-leading total to 30.
- Tatiana Turgeon had three kills on a team-high .429 hitting clip.
- With the win, Cal Poly improves to 17-8 overall and 10-4 in the Big West.
