Paracuelles Maintains Lead, CSUN Third at Utah Tech

WAHINGTON, Utah - Freshman Meghan Paracuelles increased her individual lead from one shot to two following an even-par 72 in the second round of the Utah Tech Trailblazer Invitational Monday at Green Spring Golf Course.
Paracuelles, who matched her 18-hole season-low with a 2-under 70 on Sunday, heads into Tuesday's final round with a two-shot lead over Gonzaga's Chaewon Baek (E, 144). The CSUN freshman had four birdies in round two - giving her seven birdies over two days - as her even-par 72 moved her to 2-under 142 for the tournament. Her 36-hole total is the second-lowest by a Matador player this season.Â
As a team, the Matadors posted a score of 19-over 307 to slip one stroke behind Gonzaga into third place at 606 in the nine-team field. Utah Valley (598) fired a team round of 6-over 294 to move into first place, seven shots ahead of second-place Gonzaga (605). UC Irvine (610), Utah Tech (619), Western Michigan (621), Southern Utah (622), Eastern Washington (649), and Idaho State (661) round out the team standings.

CSUN will be paired with the same two teams (Gonzaga and Utah Valley) for Tuesday's third and final round which is scheduled to tee-off Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.

- Fellow freshman Nicole Tanoue followed up an even-par 72 on Sunday with a 2-over 74 on Monday but remained in a third-place tie. Tanoue had a single tough hole Monday, a quadruple nine at the par-5 18th, but battled back behind three birdies and 13 pars to finish at 2-over. She opens Tuesday's final round just four shots back of teammate Paracuelles.
- Sophomore Kim Turgut followed up a 7-over 79 on Sunday with an 8-over 80 on Monday to slip from a tie for 26th into 29th at 15-over 159.Â
- After carding a team-high five birdies on Sunday, sophomore Gracie Piar added a pair on Monday but struggled to a 12-over 84 to slip from 18th into 36th at 18-over 162 for the tournament.
- Freshman Ellie Shirley posted a seven-shot improvement from round one to round two (88-81) to move up from 46th into 42nd at 25-over 169..
CSUN will be paired with the same two teams (Gonzaga and Utah Valley) for Tuesday's third and final round which is scheduled to tee-off Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.
