NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Track & Field's junior Trey Knight added to his banner indoor season by winning the 2024 MPSF Male Athlete of the Year award, as announced by the conference on Friday. In his first season at CSUN, Knight becomes the first-ever Matador in any sport to earn a major MPSF annual award.
Originally from Ridgefield, Wash., Knight won both the weight throw and the shot put titles at the 2024 MPSF Indoor Championships last weekend. Knight became the first-ever CSUN male athlete to win the weight throw in team history and the first Matador since 1993 to win the shot put event.
Knight broke his own weight throw school record by tossing a nationally fifth-ranked 23.52m (77-2) to take home first place at the MPSF's. His shot put title would be won with a toss of 16.94m (55-7).
Earlier this season, Knight broke a then-school record in the weight throw in his first meet at Northern Arizona on Jan. 12 with a heave of 22.17m (72-9). That performance would earn him MPSF Athlete of the Week accolades. He also took home first-place honors in the weight throw with a toss of 21.58m (70-9.75) at the UW Invite from Jan. 26-27.
Knight will represent CSUN at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in the weight throw on March 7 in Boson, Mass.
