Piar Tied for Third, CSUN Seventh After One Round of Big West Championship

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Sophomore Gracie Piar is tied for third to lead the CSUN women's golf team after the opening round of the 2024 Big West Women's Golf Championship Sunday at Spanish Trail Country Club.
As a team. the Matadors posted a team round of (+23) 311 and are seventh in the nine-team championship field. At 8-over 296, Long Beach State has a three-shot lead over Cal Poly (299) heading into round two on Monday. UC Davis (304) is third, following by UC Riverside (305), Cal State Fullerton (307), Hawai'i (310), CSUN, UC Irvine (319), and Cal State Bakersfield (322).Â
Piar had three birdies in the opening round, all coming on the front nine. The CSUN sophomore got her round as low as 1-under after her third birdie at the par-5 8th hole. She remained at 1-under after making par at No. 10 before posting a pair of bogeys to finish 2-over the remainder of the round to close out her day at 1-over 73.
Piar opens Monday's second round just three shots back of individual leader Jasmine Leovao of Long Beach State, the lone player in the 45-player field to finish the day under par. Leovao carded a round of 2-under 70 to carry a two-shot lead over UC Riverside's Maleyna Gregorio (E, 72) with Piar one of four players at 1-over 73.

The Matadors will be paired with UC Irvine and Cal State Bakersfield for round two which gets underway Monday morning. Tanoue will be the first Matador to tee off at 8:30 a.m.

CSUNÂ SCORES
- Junior Elle Laur is tied for 21st at 6-over 78 after posting a pair of birdies in round one. Her two birdies came on her opening three holes as she was 1-under through six holes. Laur then finished 7-over on her final 12 holes to finish the day at 6-over.
- Kim Turgut is tied for 24th after carding three birdies in a round of 7-over 79. Turgut also got off to a good start, making birdie on her opening two holes before adding a third at No. 11 to get back to 5-over.
- Meghan Paracuelles is tied for 33rd at 9-over 81 after making her lone birdie on her 18th and final hole of the day.
- Nicole Tanoue rounded out the CSUN scoring as she is tied for 39th at 10-over 82 after recording a pair of birdies on the day.
