CSUN Secures Season Sweep of Pepperdine

MALIBU, Calif.---CSUN Baseball notched its 20th win of the season with a 9-1 victory over Pepperdine on Tuesday at Eddy D. Field Stadium. Seven Matador pitchers combined to limit the Waves to five hits while three batters produced multiple-hit games. Conner Stewart registered his third home run of the season on the afternoon. CSUN's win secured a season sweep of Pepperdine.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Kamau Neighbors got the Matadors' offense started with a leadoff single to open the game. After Jakob Simons drew a walk, both base runners moved up a on a wild pitch. Jarren Sanderson would then cash in on a two-run single up the middle to put CSUN on top. The Matadors later executed a play where Nathan Barraza was caught in a run down between first and second base, allowing Sanderson to score from third base for a 3-0 lead.

Destin Allen-Fox earned the Tuesday start for CSUN and dazzled on the mound in his three innings of work. The freshman left hander faced just one over the minimum while totaling three strikeouts with a one single allowed.
Allen-Fox would pass the baton to Adan Perez in the fourth inning. Over a two-inning stint, Perez racked up four strikeouts and yielded no hits. The Waves would threaten in the sixth after a walk and hit batter put the first two on with nobody out, prompting a change on the mound, but reliever Gabriel Hernandez retired the next three batters in succession.
Still leading 3-0 in the seventh, CSUN added to their lead via the long ball. Andrew Sojka set the table with a walk before Stewart unloaded on a two-run homer to right field for a 5-0 lead.

The Matadors used three pitchers to get through a bottom of the seventh where the Waves loaded the bases with one out. A wild pitch allowed Pepperdine to plate a run, but Blake Ignaciak retired Brady Renk on a flyout to escape further damage.

In the eighth, CSUN put up two runs on the scoreboard without the benefit of a hit, stretching the lead to 7-1. After being hit by a pitch, Simons stole second and third base before scoring on a wild pitch. CSUN later scored another run when Mason Le was caught in a rundown, allowing Andrew Gauna to score from third.
The lead grew to 9-1 in the ninth when CSUN scored twice on three hits. A run scored on a double play with the bases loaded while Simons drove in CSUN's final run on an RBI single.

The combination of Ignaciak and Andrew Parker recorded the final six outs to nail down the win.
