NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---Fresh off making more Matador history last week, CSUN Track & Field's Trey Knight earned his second Big West Field Athlete of the Week award of the season on Tuesday, the league office announced.
Knight would rewrite the CSUN record book at the 2024 Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday. The junior shattered his own school record in the hammer throw with a PR of 76.99m (252-7). Knight took second place in the event as California's Rowan Hamilton pulled out a 77.16m (253-2) mark to take first place. Knight's performance in the event is the second-best in the nation this outdoor season.
In March, Knight had set his previous CSUN record in the hammer throw with a toss of 76.36m (250-6) to take first place at the Trojan Invitational.
During the outdoor season, Knight has posted two first-place finishes along with the second-place finish this past weekend. Knight had a banner indoor season for CSUN earlier this year where he won the weight throw and the shot put titles at the MPSF Indoor Championships before ultimately taking second place in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Knight previously earned the Big West Field Athlete of the Week award on March 26. Overall, CSUN's Men's Track & Field team has won five total Big West Athlete of the Week awards this season with David Phillips, Jr. winning twice and Chase Mars winning once.
CSUN returns to competition at two meets this week, first at UC Irvine's Steve Scott Invitational from April 26-27 along with a stay at Arizona's Desert Heat Classic on April 27.
