CSUN Track & Field Completes Busy Weekend at USC and UCLA

LOS ANGELES, Calif.---The CSUN Track & Field teams wrapped up a busy weekend in Los Angeles, competing in three total meets across the USC and UCLA campuses.Â
The Matadors participated in USC's Ron and Sharlene Allice Trojan Invitational from March 27-28, highlighted by numerous personal-bests and three all-time top-10 marks in school history. CSUN's distance athletes took part in UCLA's Bob Larsen Distance Carnival on March 27, posting a several top-five efforts while senior Jay Louison-Roe took part in UCLA's Jim Bush Legends Invitational on Saturday, advancing to the final round.Â
TROJAN INVITATIONAL TOP PERFORMERS
Layne Buck posted a standout performance in the men's long jump, setting a personal record of 7.28m (23-10.75) for a second-place finish in the event. Aiydan Bague also set a PR of his own, taking fourth place with a mark of 7.16m (23-6). Tzu-Ting Chan was seventh in the long jump with a mark of 6.96m (22-10) while Matthew Browner took eighth place at 6.68m (21-11).Â
Buck was also the top Matador in the 100m race, setting a PR of 10.84 to finish in third place followed by Wyatt Wiggins in fourth place at 10.86.Â
In the men's discus, Kyriaun Davis posted a fourth-place finish with a toss of 54.50m (178-9). That mark ranked ninth-best in CSUN history. Right behind Davis was Isaiah Butler who set a PR of 53.54m (175-8) to place fifth while Elijah Ignacio was sixth at 52.85m (173-4), Santiago Cerda was 12th at 44.65m (146-6) and Tui Edwin was 13th at 44.44m (145-9).Â
Davis also took fourth place in the men's shot put with a throw of 15.92m (52-2.75). Edwin was the next best Matador performer, taking fifth place with a mark of 15.85m (52-0) followed by Ignacio in sixth place at 15.74m (51-7.75), Franciscio Isiordia placed in eighth at 15.18m (49-9.75) and Cerda was ninth at 14.82m (48-7.5).Â
Camryn Harris represented CSUN in the women's triple jump where she set a PR of 12.47m (40-11) to finish fourth overall. That top mark tied for 10th-place in Matador history.Â
The women's high jump had two CSUN athletes as Ashleigh Porter was fourth overall with a top mark of 1.69m (5-6.5). Naomi Sachs finished fifth with a leap of 1.64m (5-4.5).Â
In men's sprints, Walter Pierce took fourth overall in the 400m with a time of 47.06 while Jayden Smith cracked the top-10, placing 10th with a time of 48.84. Linkin Woolf set a PR of 48.92 to finish 11th and Terence Williams came in 14th place with a time of 49.71. In the men's 200m, Pierce also paced CSUN, finishing sixth at 21.42 while Wiggins placed seventh at 21.56 and Williams finished 11th at 22.61.Â
David Stingle set a PR in the men's javelin, finishing in fifth place with a mark of 62.34m (204-6). That performance ranked sixth-best in program history.Â
In the women's long jump, Chandler Smith took sixth place with top leap of 6.08m (19-11.5) while Danielle Irvin set a PR of 5.82m (19-1.25) to finish 10th and Anna Negulic followed right behind in 11th place at 5.65m (18-6.5).Â
BOB LARSEN DISTANCE CARNIVAL TOP PERFORMERS
On the women's side, Lilit Arakelyan was the top performer at the meet, posting a second-place finish in the 3000m-steeplechase. Her time of 10:52.25 set a PR and was the second-fastest time in school history. Savannah Ganter finished in fourth in the event, clocking a time of 11:14.29.

Brianna Torres paced CSUN in the women's 10000m race with her time of 37:02.87 to take third place overall. Right behind her was Nadia Munoz who finished sixth with a time of 37:37.76.

On the men's team, Ramiro Mateos was third overall in the 3000m-steeplechase with his time of 9:26.55. Diego Rodriguez also had a solid showing in the event, taking sixth place with a PR time of 9:30.98 while Omar Heredia finished in 15th place at 10:06.09.

Thomas Achten paced the Matador men in the 5000m race, setting a PR of 14:35.23 to finish fourth followed by Cesar Cuevas who set a PR of 14:40.70 to place sixth. Camilo Torres was ninth as well in the event, charting a time of 14:55.34.

Ami Jacobson was seventh in the women's 5000m, posting a PR of 17:39.77 while Citlaly Ruiz took 21st place at 18:39.07.
BUSH LEGENDS INVITE
Louison-Roe was the lone Matador at the UCLA Jim Busg Legends Invitational, participating in the men's triple jump. He advanced to the finals where he finished in eighth place with a mark of 14.93m (48-11.75).Â
OTHER MATADOR PERFORMANCES
CSUN returns to competition at two weeks when it splits up its roster to compete in two more meets. The Matadors are scheduled to participate at the Texas Relays in Austin from April 2-4 while CSUN is also set for action at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational in La Jolla from April 3-4.Â

OTHER MATADOR PERFORMANCES
- At the Trojan Invitational, Butler set a PR in the hammer throw to finish fifth overall with a mark of 56.30m (184-5). Isiordia was also eighth in the event with his top mark of 43.96m (144-2).Â
- Raul Verges finished fourth in the men's 800m at USC, clocking a time of 1:53.91 to set a PR. Ja'Patrick Smith was fifth in the event with a time of 1:56.37. Verges was also fourth in the 1500m, running at 4:11.92.Â
- At USC, Trystin Mitchell took seventh place in the women's 400m with a time of 56.65 followed by Brianna Wells who set a PR of 57.10 to place eighth.Â
- Other sprints at USC included the women's 4x400m team of Hannah Bridge, Amaya Rice, Makyla Jones and Serena Grace finishing fourth at 45.49. Bridge led the way in the 100m, taking 13th place at 12.00 while Rice was 14th at 12.04. Jayden Lopes was seventh in the 400m-hurdles with a time of 1:04.86. Grace took 13th place in the 200m with a wind-aided time of 24.52 followed Rice in 15th place at 25.12.Â
- In distance races at USC, Kahlai Cruser set a PR of 2:21.10 to finish sixth in the women's 800m. Jacobson was eighth in the 1500m with a time of 4:55.60.Â
- In field events at USC, Summer Mosley placed seventh in the women's discus with a toss of 51.47m (168-10) while Katherine Shipp-Davis took ninth place at 50.66m (166-2), Amani Britton placed 11th at 48.94m (160-6) and Treasure Brown was 16th at 43.25m (141-10). Britton would pace CSUN in the shot put, taking ninth place at 13.68m (44-10.75) followed by Shipp-Davis in 12th place at 12.45m (40-10.25) and Jocelyn Hoggard in 13th place at 12.11m (39-8.75). Hoggard also was 12th in the hammer throw by reaching 46.14m (151-4).Â
CSUN returns to competition at two weeks when it splits up its roster to compete in two more meets. The Matadors are scheduled to participate at the Texas Relays in Austin from April 2-4 while CSUN is also set for action at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational in La Jolla from April 3-4.Â
