CSUN Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season at Beach Opener

LONG BEACH, Calif.---The CSUN Track & Field teams kicked off the 2026 outdoor season this weekend at Long Beach State's Beach Opener inside Jack Rose Track. The two-day meet was held from Friday to Saturday with notable standout performances on the men's and women's teams.

TOP MEN'S PERFORMANCES
Jay Louison-Roe, last season's Big West triple jump champion, finished in second place in the event on Saturday. Louison-Roe posted a mark of 14.80m (48-6.75) to get the runner-up finish while newcomer Aiydan Bague made it to the triple jump finals where he was seventh at 14.32m (46-11.75). Jorge Romo finished ninth as well with a leap of 13.94m (45-9).

Junior David Stingle had an impressive outing his first meet with CSUN. Competing in the javelin, Stingle placed fourth overall with a toss of 61.65m (202-3), good enough for the sixth-best throw in CSUN history.

In distance races, Ramiro Mateos led Matador runners with a fourth-place finish in the 3000m-steeplechase with a time of 9:39.74 followed by Omar Heredia in sixth place at 10:29.10. Darrick Jacob, Jr. was fifth in the 800m, setting a PR of 1:58.19. Also in the 3000m, Diego Rodriguez placed seventh overall with his time of 9:00.70 while Ramiro Mateos set a PR of 9:15.97 in the event to place 11th.

In the 400m, Wyatt Wiggins, Jr. paced CSUN with an eighth-place finish at 48.71. Jeremiah Harris followed with a PR of 48.95 to finish 11th overall followed by Linkin Woolf in 20th place at 50.89.

Tylor Connelly set a PR in the hammer throw, taking 10th place with a toss of 59.49m (195-2) while Isaiah Butler placed 20th at 52.11m (170-11). In other throwing events, Francisco Isiordia was 10th overall in the shot put with a mark of 15.40m (50-6.25).

TOP WOMEN'S PERFORMANCES
Katherine Shipp-Davis highlighted the women's performances, taking third place in the discus with a toss of 48.42m (158-10). Amani Britton placed in sixth in the event with her toss of 46.07m (151-1) while Jocelyn Hoggard finished 12th at 12.57m (41-3).

Anna Negulic took fifth place overall in the long jump, registering a leap of 5.35m (17-6.75).

Britton finished as the top Matador thrower in the shot put, taking seventh place with her best mark of 13.40m (43-11.75). Shipp-Davis made it to the top nine in the event, finishing ninth overall at 13.12m (43-0.50).

In distance races, Nadia Munoz led CSUN in two separate events. Munoz was seventh in the 1500m after running at 4:59.16 while she was seventh in the 3000m at 10:52.11. Sakura Divecchio finished behind Munoz in the 1500m, placing eighth at 5:01.42 while Ailani Valiente took 20th place at 5:15.38. Citlaly Ruiz finished in the top-10 in the 3000m, finishing eighth overall at 11:00.44 followed by Divecchio in 11th place with a PR of 11:10.29.

OTHER MATADOR PERFORMANCES

Elijah Ignacio paced CSUN in the men's discus with an 11th-place finish, recording a toss of 47.65m (156-4). Butler was just behind in 12th place, throwing at 47.32m (155-3).
CSUN's men's distance runners of Jacob, Rodriguez, Heredia and Mateos competed in the 4x400m, finishing 16th overall with a time of 3:41.69.
Jacob was also 22nd in the men's 1500m after running at 4:11.08 followed by Rodriguez in 23rd place at 4:12.08.
Hoggard set a PR in the women's hammer throw, registering a mark of 50.38m (165-3) to finish 13th overall.
Kahlai Cruser competed in the women's 800m, taking 17th place by clocking a time of 2:30.63. Valiente was 19th in the event at 2:32.49.
In sprints, Shaunise Tu'ua finished 19th in the women's 100m with a time of 12.54.
CSUN's women's distance runners of Cruser, Valiente, Divecchio and Munoz ran at 4:22.66 in the 4x400m to finish 16th.
