CSUN Falls to Long Beach State in Big West Elimination Match

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The CSUN beach volleyball team saw its season come to an end on day two of the Big West Beach Volleyball Championship as No. 2 seed Long Beach State defeated the Matadors, 4-0 Friday at the KLAC Beach Volleyball Complex.

The Matadors held leads in the early going in three of the five pairs, only to see the Beach come back in each set. Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah opened the scoring in the No. 1 pair, sweeping the Matadors' Gabriela Griego and MayaMay Brown by the score of 21-14, 21-14. Long Beach's Julia Westby and Savannah Standage would then defeat Lauren Eknoian and Tasha Mae, 21-17, 21-12 on the No. 2 court to open up a 2-0 lead for the Beach.
CSUN's Taylor Buckley and Jillian Rodig fell to Christine Deroos and Haley Carrington, 21-7, 21-18 which would decide the dual as the Matadors were eliminated for the the championship. The No. 5 pair would go final with Livi Narancich and Megan Widener defeating Abbey Sweeting and Maleya Miles, 21-12, 21-11 to make the final score, 4-0.Â
The Matadors' No. 3 pair of Julia Bazylevych and Kinley Lindhardt, won the opening set over Natalie Glenn and Mo Gibson before dropping set two when the match was ended.
The Matadors finish the season with an overall record of 16-21.
