Marley Edwards Collects Preseason All-Big West Honors, CSUN Picked Sixth

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Men's Soccer's senior Marley Edwards was one-of-11 selected to the 2024 Big West Preseason Coaches' Team on Monday, the league office announced. The Matadors were also picked to finish sixth in the annual preseason coaches' poll.
Originally from Chilliwack, B.C., Edwards enters his third and final season with the Matadors in 2024. Last season, Edwards played in all 18 matches, making 12 starts while he totaled 17 shots with six on goal. Edwards started 12 times including three matches in league play in 2023.
In his first season with CSUN, Edwards hit the net once and dished out an assist over 19 matches, which included 18 starts as he helped CSUN reach the semifinals of the Big West Championship. Edwards has played in 37 total matches with CSUN after beginning his collegiate career at Fresno Pacific in 2021.
In the 2024 Big West Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll, CSUN was picked to return to the postseason as the Matadors garnered 41 points to finish sixth. UC Irvine was picked to win the conference with four first-place votes and 75 points followed by Cal State Fullerton with three first-place votes and 66 points and UC Santa Barbara with three first-place votes and 65 points. UC Davis was picked fourth followed by Cal Poly ahead of CSUN. UC Riverside finished seventh while UC San Diego was eighth and Cal State Bakersfield and Sacramento State were tied for ninth place.
CSUN finished the 2023 season at 4-6-8 overall and 2-3-4 in Big West play as the Matadors set a school record with eight draws on the year. The team battled back from an 0-3 start to Big West play to go 2-0-4 over its final six conference games but fell two points shy of qualifying for the Big West Championship.
CSUN officially opens the 2024 season on Thursday evening at Matador Soccer Field against James Madison. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
