CSUN Hits the Road for Matches at Denver and Oregon

GAME NOTES
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Women's Soccer (1-3) opens a three-match road swing on Thursday night at Denver with kickoff set for 6 p.m. on the Summit League Network. The Matadors will then travel to Oregon for a noon matchup on B1G+.
ABOUT LAST WEEK
CSUN opened up its home schedule with a split at Matador Soccer Field. The Matadors dropped a 2-1 decision to Idaho on Thursday to open the home slate. Jackie Victorio scored her first career goal via a penalty kick to give CSUN the lead in the 25th minute, but Idaho roared back to tie the game and eventually hit the game winner early in the second half. CSUN would bounce back with a 2-1 victory over LMU for its first win of the season. Cailey Jackson and Jordyn Canister provided the scoring versus LMU as the Lions scored a late goal in the 84th minute but could not hit the equalizer in the closing moments.
CANISTER NAMED BIG WEST FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Jordyn Canister, a redshirt freshman, collected her first career BIg West award as she was named Freshman of the Week on Monday. Canister scored her first career goal and game winner in CSUN's 2-1 victory over LMU on Sunday. Her goal came off an assist from Ashly Torres in the 35th minute, which gave CSUN a 2-0 lead. In four matches this season, Canister has started twice and accumulated four shots with three on goal. Canister missed all of last season with an injury.
MATADOR FIRSTS
Jordyn Canister and Jackie Victorio each tallied their first career goals in last week's matches at Matador Soccer Field. Victorio previously had an assist in her three-year CSUN career while Canister notched her first career points with the goal. Yoshi Rubalcava, who assisted Cailey Jackson on her goal versus LMU, notched her first career helper on the play. A total of six Matadors have made their first appearances with CSUN this season, which includes Canister, Keilani Claiborne, Kayden Perigo, Sydney Lipkin, Gabriella Sanchez and goalkeeper Riley Liebsack. Head coach Gina Brewer also notched her first career victory with CSUN in the 2-1 victory on Sunday.
SCOUTING DENVER
Denver holds a 2-2 record through the first two weeks of the season. In last week's action, DU upset No. 24 Texas A&M in a 3-2 triumph before shutting out Lamar 3-0 on the road. The Pioneers are coming off a 9-2-7 season in 2023, where they won the Summit League regular season championship for a sixth-straight season. Denver was predicted to win the Summit League again in 2024. DU's Michaela McGowan was named to Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week after her team's two wins last week. McGowan tops the team with six points while Ella Frost and Megan Murray have a team-high two goals. Alina Santos has a shutout along with six saves in goal in 2024.
Series History: Denver leads CSUN 2-0-1 in the all-time series. The teams last played in 2019 at Matador Soccer Field with the Pioneers coming out on top 1-0. Prior to that match, the programs had not played since 2000 (0-0 tie). CSUN is making its first-ever trip to the University of Denver.

The Ducks are 2-2 on the season dropping a pair of matches last week. Oregon fell to New Mexico State 2-1 and New Mexico 3-1 in last week's action in Las Cruces. In 2023, Oregon finished 0-16-3 and finished 12th in its final season in the Pac-12. The Ducks are entering their first season in the Big Ten this year. A total of five Ducks have scored goals this season while Haley McWhirter tops the team with three points. Maddy Goldberg has posted a 1.25 goals-against-average on the season with 12 saves and two shutouts.
Series History: Oregon leads CSUN 2-1 in the all-time series, but the teams have not since the 1999 season. CSUN won its last meeting with Oregon by a 3-1 score in Eugene.
