CSUN Drops 2-0 Decision at Denver

DENVER, Colo.---CSUN Women's Soccer opened its three-match road stretch with a 2-0 loss at Denver on Thursday at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. The teams played to a standstill in the first half, but the Pioneers notched two second-half goals to pick up the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Denver went on the attack in the early going, earning a corner kick in the first 20 seconds of the match followed by six total shots in the first 10 minutes of play. Goalkeeper Riley Liebsack saw 13 shots in the first half but was up for the challenge. Liebsack turned back a strike from Michaela McGowan in the second minute and another attempt from Megan Murray in the ninth minute to keep the game scoreless. Kayden Perigo put CSUN's first shot on frame in the 10th minute, but goalkeeper Molly Wissman made the save. Late in the half, Jordyn Canister had her shot saved as the game remained 0-0 heading into intermission.
CSUN earned three shots in the early going of the second half, but Denver would break the scoreless tie moments later. In the 60th minute, McGowan found Samantha Dreiling for the goal to give Denver a 1-0 lead. Just a minute later, the Pioneers found the back of the net again, but the goal was called off due to an offside call. In a similar play, Delaney McGowan hit the back of the net in the 68th minute, but a video review determined that play was offside as well, keeping the game at 1-0.
The Matadors would keep the deficit at one goal until the 85th minute when Dreiling recorded her second goal of the match off a pass from Murray. Samantha Healy and Yoshi Rubalcava had CSUN's last looks of the night, but each were off the mark.

CSUN continues its road trip with a Sunday match at Oregon. Kickoff is slated for noon on B1G+.
