CSUN Cross Country Competes at UC Riverside Invitational Saturday

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Cross Country competes in its second meet of the fall this Saturday at the UC Riverside Invitational on the UCR Agricultural Operations Course. The action begins with the women's 6k invitational at 7:15 a.m. followed by the men's 8k invitational at 7:50 a.m. The women's 5k open is set for 8:25 a.m. and the men's 8k open concludes the morning of competition at 8:55 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Matadors opened the fall season at Pepperdine's Waves Invitational on Friday, Aug. 30. Junior Camilo Torres led the CSUN men with a personal record 6k time of 18:32.4 for 11th-place points and a 17th overall finish while senior Sakura Divecchio broke the school's women's 4k record, charting a time of 14:19.4 to lead the CSUN women and finishing with 23rd-place points and 23rd overall.
On the men's side, junior Cesar Cuevas was the next fastest Matador as he ran a time of 18:59.0, setting a PR and finishing with 17th-place points and 23rd overall. Freshman Darrick Jacob, Jr. made his Matador debut in the meet, running a time of 19:15.4 to post 20th-place points (27th overall) while freshman Alec Flores ran a time of 20:05.5 for 25th-place points (38th overall). Junior Kai Smith also set a PR with a time of 20:28.8 and freshman Caden Bazo recorded a time of 20:32.9 in his CSUN debut.
Junior Ami Jacobson made her CSUN debut on the women's team, posting a time of 14:35.8 for 28th-place points (28th overall) followed by senior Elin Markarian at 14:55.8 to chart 35th-place points (38th overall). Senior Leann Hamilton had a time of 15:46.3 and junior Emily Ramirez registered a time of 21:35.6 in her CSUN debut.
As a group, CSUN's men's team was fourth while the women's squad finished sixth at the meet.
FAMILIAR TERRITORY
CSUN will compete for the first of three total times this season at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course on Saturday. In four weekends, CSUN will return to the course to compete at the Highlander Invitational in the final meet of the regular season. Two weeks later, CSUN makes its third and final trip to the course for the 2024 Big West Cross Country Championships, hosted by UC Riverside.

Following this weekend's meet, CSUN will return to action in two weeks at The Master's Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 5 in Santa Clarita, Calif.
