CSUN Completes Second Meet with Several Personal Records Set

RIVERSIDE, Calif.---CSUN Cross Country wrapped up its second meet of the fall season on Saturday at the UC Riverside Invitational. Junior Camilo Torres led the men's side by setting a new personal record as well as the second-best 8k time in school history while junior Ami Jacobson paced the women's team by finishing in the top 30 in the 5k.
In total, CSUN set seven new personal records on the day between the men's and women's teams.
MEN
Torres, who previously held the second-best CSUN 8k time, broke his personal mark with a time of 24:25.1 as he finished with 58th-place points and 68th overall in the 8k invite. As a team, CSUN was 25th at the event with 665 points.
Junior Cesar Cuevas was the next fastest Matador, posting a time of 25:16.1 to finish with 128th-place points (149th overall). Freshman Thomas Achten recorded a time of 25:27.1 for 144th-place points (168th overall) followed by senior Ramiro Mateos with a time of 25:52.0 at 166th-place points (203rd overall), junior Ja'Patrick Smith with a personal record time of 25:58.4 at 168th-place points (208th overall), freshman Darrick Jacob, Jr. with a time of 26:18.3 at 172nd-place points (223rd overall) and junior Kai Smith with a time of 26:41.1 at 176th-place points (233rd overall).
Three other Matador freshmen competed in the race as Caden Bazo ran a time of 27:28.5 (244th overall), Diego Rodriguez posted a time of 27:34.8 (245th overall) and Alec Flores finished with a time of 28.25.5 (247th overall).
California Baptist finished first as a team with 25 points with the Lancers' Zouhair Redouane winning the individual race at 23:33.0.
WOMEN
Jacobson led CSUN runners in her first 5k race as a Matador, posting a PR time of 18:20.7 to finish with 16th-place points and 25th overall. As a team, CSUN claimed 12th place out of 26 teams with 336 points.
Senior Elin Markarian set a new PR in the 5k with a time of 19:01.5 to finish with 57th-place points (79th overall). Fellow senior Sakura Divecchio recorded a new PR as well with a time of 19:17.7 for 82nd-place points (111th overall). Up next was junior Savannah Ganter who ran a PR time of 19:17.9 for 83rd-place points (112th overall) followed by senior Leann Hamilton with a PR time of 19:28.5 to chart 98th-place points (131st overall). Junior Emily Ramirez rounded out the Matador runners with a time of 28:05.2 at 177th-place points (279th overall).
UC Irvine took home the team victory with 68 points while Occidental's Jenna LeNay won the individual race with a time of 17:30.8.

"Overall, both teams ran well. We had seven career best times. For the men, half the team ran the 8k for the first time and all five exceeded my expectations. On the women's side, the team moved up two places from second to fourth kilometers and then another four places in the last kilometer."
