NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Women's Soccer played to a 1-1 draw with Cal State Fullerton in the Big West opener on Sunday evening at Matador Soccer Field. Yoshi Rubalcava netted her second goal of the season while goalkeeper Riley Liebsack finished with five saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
CSUN was the aggressor in the early going, resulting in three shots and a corner kick in the first 12-plus minutes of action. In the 15th minute, the Matadors would break through shortly after a free kick. Angelica Claiborne took the free kick and sent the ball into the box where a Fullerton defender headed the ball back out to Paige Califf a few yards away. Califf then headed the ball back forward to Rubalcaba who made a turn to her right and sent a quick shot into the net for a CSUN 1-0 lead.

The Matadors would outshoot the Titans 8-3 in the first 45 minutes of action with Rubalcava picking up five shots with two on goal. On the flip side, Liebsack made one save for the Matadors, stopping an attempt from Cayla Oliveira in the 19th minute of play.
After intermission, the Titans turned the tables and went on the attack in the second half. Over the 45 minutes, Fullerton outshot CSUN 14-1 as the Titans generated seven corner kicks. Graci Raymond nearly evened the match when she hit the left post in the 47th minute while Liebsack made a timely save on a left-footed shot from Kaylee Noble from close range at the left post minutes later. The Titans though found the equalizer in the 75th minute when Nobel set up Makenna McGill with a cross. McCill tapped in the ball at the door step of the goal to even the match at 1-1. Liebsack would continue to be tested down the stretch of the game, but she fended off each attack to help keep the game tied. Fullerton recorded five shots over the final 10 minutes of play with Liebsack making a pair of saves including her final save with nine seconds left on a shot from Isabella Cruz.
NOTES OF THE GAME
ACCORDING TO COACH GINA BREWER
"We were excited to score an early goal and we were looking to defend the lead, but as we know, Fullerton is a very good team and they are defending Big West champs, so at the end of day, for us to get the 1-1 draw, we're happy with that result. We're proud of our team for fighting through and just working really hard defensively in the second half.
