NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — CSUN men's soccer (6-2-3) is set to kick off a two-game week when it hosts Sacramento State on Wednesday before traveling to UC Davis on Saturday night.
Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday's contest will take place at Matador Soccer Field, while Saturday's will be at Aggie Soccer Field.
LAST TIME OUT
CSUN split its first two Big West matches of the season last week. On Wednesday, Enrique Pineda scored in the 86th minute on a pass from Zion Wagoner to lift the Matadors past UC Riverside 1-0.
The victory marked CSUN's first win at UC Riverside since October 2016. Goalkeeper Dorian Drucks recorded his seventh shutout, the most by a Matador since 2022.
CSUN returned home Saturday night for a match against Cal State Bakersfield. Despite generating 12 shots, including five on goal, the Matadors were held scoreless in a 1-0 loss to the Roadrunners.
The decisive moment came in the 50th minute, when CSU Bakersfield's Oshea Foster broke free on a long ball from Jackson Mpawenayo and finished a one-on-one chance past Drucks from the left side of the box.
The match was physical from the start, as Bakersfield committed 24 fouls to CSUN's eight. A combined five yellow cards were issued. CSUN led in most statistical categories and created quality chances but couldn't convert.
GOALS BEING SPREAD AROUND
Through the 2025 campaign, scoring has been balanced across the Matador roster. Six different players have found the back of the net, with Enrique Pineda and Jorge Solorzano leading the way with two goals apiece. Eyifehn Forfor, Daniel Garcia, Sebastian Fuentes and Zack Harris each have one.
OUR GOALKEEPER IS AMONG THE BEST
Goalkeeper Dorian Drucks has already matched a milestone not achieved since 2022. He has been in goal for seven shutouts, the most by a CSUN goalkeeper since that season. In 2022, Cooper Wenzel reached seven shutouts in 19 games — Drucks accomplished the feat in just nine.
The junior from Essen, Germany, ranks third nationally in shutouts.
SCOUTING SACRAMENTO STATE
The Hornets enter the week 1-8-2 overall. They have scored seven goals while allowing 24. Their lone win came on the road at Pacific on Sept. 11, a 2-1 victory. Sacramento State opened Big West play last week with losses to CSU Bakersfield and Cal State Fullerton.
The Hornets average 9.4 shots per match. Their 56 saves lead the Big West, while their 5.09 saves per game rank second behind UC San Diego (5.20). Sacramento State has converted its last 13 consecutive penalty kicks, a streak dating back to 2018.
SERIES HISTORY
CSUN leads the all-time series 14-8-3 against Sacramento State. The Matadors will look to avenge a 5-0 road loss from 2024. CSUN's last win came in 2019 in Northridge, a 2-1 decision.
SCOUTING UC DAVIS
The Aggies are 0-6-4 on the season. Their first two Big West matches last week ended in a loss and a tie — a 2-1 defeat to Cal Poly on Wednesday and a 1-1 draw with UC San Diego on Saturday.
UC Davis has scored seven goals while allowing 16. The Aggies have attempted 129 shots, averaging 12.9 per match, which leads the Big West. Cason Goodman and Chase Tanon pace the team with two goals each.
SERIES HISTORY
CSUN trails the all-time series 9-13-7 against UC Davis. The Matadors' last win came in 2022, a 3-2 home victory. The 2023 and 2024 matchups both ended in draws.
