Leah Miller led the Matadors (16-12, 9-8 Big West) with 16 kills (.267) and five blocks, while Hailey Brockway added 15 kills (.250) and seven digs. Junior Julia Bazylevych chipped in 10 kills (.040) and 13 digs, while three other Matadors (Paige Sentes, Taylor Dunlap, and Saniyah Sobers) each had a team-high 14 digs.
The Matadors out-blocked the Aggies 14–8 behind seven blocks (three solo) from Layla Moore and four from Hayley Ogden, who also added seven kills (.158).
CSUN opened strong, taking the first set (25-21) by hitting .302 behind six kills from Miller. The Matadors dominated early blocking exchanges and sided out at a 77% clip to grab a one-set lead.
UC Davis (19-6, 15-2) responded with a commanding second set, and then saved three CSUN set points to claim a dramatic third frame in extra points. The Matadors forced 12 Aggie attack errors and had set points at 25-24, 26-25, and 27-26 before the Aggies claimed the final three points to take a 2–1 match advantage.
The Matadors surged in the fourth, capitalizing on 10 UC Davis attack errors to force a decisive fifth. Despite early trading of points, the Aggies used a 4-0 run sparked by Breeze Czapinski — who finished with a match-high 16 kills — to pull away to clinch the Big West regular season crown.
CSUN hit .278 in the final set but couldn't slow UC Davis' efficient offense, which posted a .429 mark in the fifth.
HEAD COACH AQUILES MONTOYA SAID
"Tough loss tonight. Our heads are high knowing that we can battle and execute a game plan to compete with a team like that on their home floor. We liked our match-ups and what we drew up at the end, Davis just ended up making great plays to finish the match.
"Congrats to UC Davis for earning at least a share of the Big West title and Dan (Conners) for becoming the all-time winningest coach at UC Davis. It's a short turnaround, and we move on to a battle with UC Riverside at their home floor, where we look to try and lock up the 5 seed for the tournament."
