12/26/2025 11:47:00 AM | Men's Basketball
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Men's Basketball concludes the non-conference portion of its schedule as well as the 2025 calendar year on Saturday when the Matadors travel to Stanford. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m. on the ACC Network Extra. Ghizal Hasan will be on the call in an audio broadcast at GoMatadors.com/Radio beginning at 4:50 p.m.
FOR STARTERS
CSUN (8-5, 1-1 Big West) has built a season-high four game winning streak heading into Saturday's matchup with Stanford. Since the start of December, CSUN has won five of six games and topped 80 points in all five of those victories. Prior to that stretch, the Matadors had only reached 80 points in three of their first seven games to start the season. After Saturday's tangle with the Cardinal, CSUN will restart Big West play on New Year's Day with a road test against UC Davis.
LAST TIME OUT
CSUN won its fourth consecutive game on Monday in a high-scoring 100-88 victory over Sacramento State at Premier America Credit Union Arena. The Matadors led by 13 points in the second half only to see the Hornets rally back to eventually take a 73-68 lead with eight minutes to go. However, CSUN returned the favor with a big 22-8 run over the final five-plus minutes to pull away down the stretch. Josiah Davis led the way offensively with 22 points to go with 10 assists while Davius Loury poured in a season-high 20 points with six made threes. Larry Hughes II battled foul trouble to score 18 points, and Joshua O'Garro had his sixth double-double of the season at 16 points and 11 rebounds. CSUN also had a big performance from Mahmoud Fofana who was a perfect 7-of-7 from the field and totaled 17 points.
NO PLACE LIKE HOME
With another win on Monday, CSUN improved its perfect record at Premier America Credit Union Arena to 6-0 this season. The Matadors have not won their first six games to begin a season at home since the 2008-09 campaign when that CSUN team started 8-0. Dating back to last season, CSUN has won eight consecutive at home, which is two short of the team's Division I record of 10, set across two seasons from Feb. 13, 1999 to Feb. 3, 2000. Previously, CSUN won a school-record 14 straight at home over three seasons from 1964-66 as a Division II program. Since Andy Newman's arrival at CSUN, the Matadors are 25-10 at Premier America Credit Union Arena.
MAKING A NAME FOR HIMSELF
Senior guard Larry Hughes II continues to enjoy a breakout season with CSUN in 2025-26. Hughes has led the Matadors in scoring throughout the season, scoring 18.4 points per game, which ranks second-best in the Big West. He has been especially effective from 3-point range, averaging a Big West-best 3.5 makes per game. Hughes is also seventh in the league in 3-point percentage while he is ranked fourth in steals per game (1.8) and 10th in free throw percentage (84.1). Prior to this season, Hughes had scored in double figures 15 times out of 65 games as a member of Saint Louis, but since arriving at CSUN, he has reached double figures in 12 of 13 total games.
AMONG THE BEST IN THE NATION
Newcomers Joshua O'Garro and Josiah Davis have made a big difference in their respective first seasons with CSUN. O'Garro has emerged as the team's top rebounder, posting 9.7 per game to go with scoring the second-most points per game (13.8). His rebounding average tops the Big West while it ranks 23rd overall in the nation. The team has won three in a row with wins over San Jose State (86-82), UT Arlington (76-60) and Colorado (77-68) over the streak. The Cardinal is coming off a 21-14 season last year that culminated in a second-round NIT appearance. As a team, Stanford scores 81.3 points per game while giving up 71.7 per game.
