CSUN Softball Set To Host Matador Classic This Weekend

GAME NOTES
NORTHRIDGE, Calif --- CSUN Women's Softball team returns home to host its first tournament of the year, the CSUN Matador Classic, where the Matadors are set to take on Seattle University and Pacific over the course of Friday-Sunday.

The Matadors play a doubleheader on Friday, with both games coming against Pacific. The first contest will take place at 11 a.m., where the second contest will start around 1 p.m. On Saturday, CSUN will play just one contest, this time against Seattle University. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.

And finally, CSUN will round out the weekend by playing both teams again, this time it will open against the Redhawks at 11 a.m. while closing against the Tigers at 1 p.m.

ABOUT LAST WEEK
CSUN comes into this weekend's Matador Classic having taken the final game of the Easton Classic last week. CSUN defeated Utah Tech in extra innings on Saturday, by a score of 4-3. Lauryn Carranco pitched all eight innings in the win. She tallied five strikeouts. Reagan Jackson scored the winning run. Kaylee Escutia led the way offensively in game two with two RBI's.

The Matadors dropped the first three contests of the season during last week's play against some tough opponents. CSUN fell to 2024 Mountain West champion San Diego State, 8-1. The Matadors dropped the next game to defending National Champion Oklahoma, 7-2. And then to kick off the Easton Classic, CSUN fell to IU Indy in a nailbiter, 5-3.

CSUN's top offensive player of the week last week was Alexa Landeros. Over the course of the four games, the senior from Simi Valley is batting .500 in 12 plate appearances. She has a 1.000 OPS while gathering six total bases. She is also tied first in RBI's with two. The other player to have two runs batted in is Makayla Carman.

ABOUT PACIFIC
The Pacific Tigers are coming off a 2024 campaign of 17 wins and 36 losses. They were 6-10 in West Coast Conference play. The Tigers have kicked off 2025 by dropping their first three games last week. Pacific has dropped games to Long Beach State, Fresno State and Seattle University.Â

Through the first three games of the season, The Tigers are led offensively by junior Olivia Silvestre. The outfielder from San Ramon is batting .556 while slugging three home runs. She is tied 11th in the nation in homers. She has an OPS of 2.192 with five hits and four RBI's. Pitching has been a weak point early on, as the Tigers are giving up seven runs per contest.

Series History: CSUN is 25-8 against Pacific all-time, dating back to 2007. CSUN currently has a two game winning streak. These two squared off against each other in Northridge last season in February 2024, and CSUN won 3-2 and 8-0.

ABOUT SEATTLE UNIVERSITY
In 2024, the Redhawks finished the season with a 23-32 record overall and 14-12 in WAC play, good enough for fourth in the conference. Seattle has begun 2025 by going 2-3 at the Stanford Invite last weekend. They began the season by losing to Long Beach State and Stanford twice, before picking up wins against Pacific and Fresno State. The Redhawks have four batters batting over 333.
As a team they have tallied 28 runs in the five games played. Seattle's best pitcher so far has been Nicola Simpson. The senior has a 2.15 ERA in two games started. She has struck out 11.
