CSUN Hits The Road for Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic

GAME NOTES
NORTHRIDGE, Calif -- CSUN Women's Softball team takes its talents to the road again as the Matadors will participate in the annual Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, Calif. CSUN will take on five different teams. The Matadors will face Oregon State and BYU this Thursday, at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively. The next day, Friday, CSUN has another doubleheader, this time against San Jose State and Saint Mary's at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Finally, CSUN will close out the tournament against Nevada on Saturday at noon. All games will be live-streamed on FloSports.

ABOUT LAST WEEK
CSUN played five games as part of the CSUN Matador Classic this past weekend. The Matadors went 1-4 in the tournament, with its lone win coming against Seattle U on Sunday, Feb 16. CSUN nearly went 2-4, losing the last game of the tournament in extra innings. Mia Cortez hit a game-tying two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the game into extras, however CSUN would end up losing in eight innings by a score of 12-10. In the win, Lauryn Carranco pitched a complete game, striking out six in the process.

ABOUT OREGON STATE
The Beavers enter Thursday's contest against the Matadors with a 3-5 record having lost four straight. OSU is coming off playing in the Wilson Tournament hosted by Long Beach State where it lost to California, Iowa State and Southern Utah.

So far this season, a star on offense has been Paige Bambarger, who is batting .450 with a 1.072 OPS. She has nine hits in 20 at-bats. OSU also has a two-headed tandem in the circle. Logan Hulon has a 2.46 ERA while Ellie Garcia has a 3.10 ERA. Both of those players have split the starting pitching duties.

Series History: CSUN leads the all-time series history at 20-15-1. However, the Matadors are currently on an eight-game losing streak. CSUN's last win came on March 9, 2014 where it won 6-2 on a neutral site.

The Cougars are entering the tournament with a 6-2 overall record. They have three players who have played and started in all eight games. Lindy Milkowski leads the team with a .381 batting average and 1.042 OPS. She has eight hits and a home run. Following her is Ilove'a Brittingham, who is batting .360 with a .970 OPS. She leads the team in RBI's with 10.

In the circle, they are led by Kaysen Korth, who has four wins in six games played. She has an impressive 0.58 ERA. As a team, the pitching staff has a 1.48 ERA.

San Jose State enters Friday's contest with a 5-5 record. However, the Spartans are on a five-game winning streak, four of which have come against Big West opponents in Cal Poly and UC San Diego. They are led in offense by Reina Zermeno who sports a .345 batting average with a 1.093 OPS. She has one homer and seven runs batted in on the season. Behind Zermeno is Shay Mcdowell, who has a .333 average with nine runs batted in and two triples.

The Spartans are led in the circle by Mia Reynolds, who has appeared in six games with a 2.63 ERA. She has tallied 26 strikeouts with an 0.89 WHIP.

The Gaels have five different players batting over .300. Alex Cutonilli has been far and away the best batter. She has 11 total bases, with eight RBIs. She also has the team's lone home run on the season.

Despite its record, Saint Mary's has a solid pitching staff. The Gaels sport a 3.30 ERA through six games. Odhi Vasquez has the most strikeouts on the team with 18 punchouts.

She has a batting average of .364 with a 1.295 OPS. Painter also has four home runs to go with 12 RBIs.
